I should watch my language around the kids. Man I feel old now and I'm only a 1976 model.

Mountain Safety Research, Outdoor Research, Teton Gravity Research...what a studious bunch
  3. I like google news for a web source. You can get the local angle on stories, and it actually IS "fair and balanced". The BBC is also very good for a news source that actually cares about the rest of the world. I'm also a fan of NPR, though they need to counterbalance Daniel Shore's tirades about this and that. I also like to try to mess with cnn.com's polls. The Christian Science Monitor is another excellent source.

    For Doctorb

It's wilder than a friday night scrabble game in spray. The weak need not apply.
  5. why cougars attack people
  6. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the ability to make the worlds first bionic Cat. Better....Stonger...Faster.
  7. Is there some embargo on distribution in Washington? I've had my copy for several months now.
  8. I really like Marmot down bags if you were looking for a specific brand. I think bags are by far their best product and they are often on sale.

    REI Sucks

holy toledo I would not let rei touch my stix. Mtn shop in PDX has never done me wrong.
  10. hah I want to see friday forecast before I go up there again. January "squalls" up there are brutal and merciless, and they don't "show up on the radar" in the weather forecast as far as I can tell.
  11. I don't think avy stuff is an issue, it is so easy to get by there out of harm's way. However, the exit gully to the hourglass will be pretty frightful in higher avalanche conds, and that's pretty much the escape off the south side of the ridge. Two folks were nailed by avalanche there in January last year. I don't think I'd want to be stuck on the ridge if shit hits the fan since it is hard to get off quickly, and the forecast is not exactly clean. Anyway, you'll know you're alive I guess. Please do not employ seige tactics on the ridge. The cc.com "flavor of the month" crap needs to stop.
  12. the days when Beck will be silent (it's a short read)
  13. here's a photo of the 555 with ski brake attached (and ski crampon)
  14. nah, sounds like the ski brakes. They match up to two holes on the rails. They lift up when your foot is in the binding, and when you wipe out and your feet release, they pop down to stop the ski from cruising down the slope...sometimes...
  15. yes in rescue applications it's all about the english system. Kind of dumb talking about a 300ft rope supporting 2kN loads, but everyone knows exactly how big a 300ft rope is, and how many you need to do a particular highline or lower down mt jefferson, etc and you can think of it in football fields English system should be banned.
  16. bah, a rumor. you only break dynafits by trying to kick-turn in them that or when you chuck them because they fill with ice just kidding, I want a pair
  17. by the way, is there a cougar just outside the shot? looks like he's a little afraid of the runout there haha
  18. jumping in dynafits how DARE you
  19. A quality alpine ski. For touring, something light. For ripping, something heavier. I have found the Atomic R:ex fits most of what I do. It is light for an alpine ski but heavy for a traditional touring ski. It has a foam core so it will break down over time. Just depends on what you want to do with it. All skis are the same these days. At least that's the way it seems to me.
  20. I remember coming back from se utah backcountry after 10 days and using a squeeze bottle shoved up my nose, firing in mild salt water until it rocketed out the other side. Unbelievable how much crud you got up there just hanging out, took minutes for it to turn clear mmmmm.

    WiFi question

Charge ridiculous amounts for coffee, that's how. Just kidding, you can limit access to specific users a number of ways. Usernames and passwords work, or you can even limit access based on the number hardcoded into the network device, like a vin number on a car.

    cold feet

yeah I was just thinking s/he might be one of the many folks who have Raynaud's phenomenon, which apparently affects a lot out there who have no idea it even exists. Here is some info: http://my.webmd.com/content/healthwise/221/73956

    WiFi question

check your tcp/ip settings. most likely they need to be set to "dhcp" to aquire an ip address and router address. Make sure the device selected is "airport" in the network settings panel.
  24. mmmmm chiippps
  25. ugh, it's like a foreign language.
