The version I'm familiar with was recorded by the Beat Farmers, which means in my head I hear it in Country Dick Montana's rich baritone. It'll probably turn up with standard MP3 piracy methods. Maybe Col.VonSpanker will contribute the trombone solo (where's he been anyway?) Hey Minx Nicely stated.

Here's what I don't get: I think we can all agree that its great that woman from a supply and maintainence team was rescued. Why would anyone want to go off on someone else, in an unrelated issue, in a different country, and be gleeful that she was killed because you don't agree with her politics. Sometimes you people really suck.

Yup, and "free" software has a $9.95 shipping and handling charge. And don't get me started about a free lunch.

Flip side of the coin says why feel sorry for any of our soldiers who die, they chose what they do, and die doing what they feel is right. Necro can feel about it any way he wants.

ARE YOU DRINKING WITH ME, JESUS? (Peter Berryman) Do you nestle by my barstool Makin' me so calm within Have you touched me with your warmness Or have I wet myself again? cho: Are you drinkin' with me Jesus I can't see you very clear If you're drinkin' with me Jesus Won't you buy a friend a beer? Do you teeter with me, Jesus On my way home so forlorn If you think that you feel bad now Wait until tomorrow morn Does your head pound with the masses As hungover you do rise What does heaven look like, Jesus Seen through holy bloodshot eyes Should we take a taxi, Jesus Should we simply hoof it from here I know you can walk on the water But can you walk on this much beer?

Perhaps you've just answered your own question.

Good, I was afraid it was the IQ test again.

Damn, are those pictures of you Stefan? I guess you're not all the way back from that accident. Are you walking on that ankle? Glad you're here to share your own warning though.

Sorry RobBob, you started this, it's your special gift to the board for the day.

Best episode of the Gong Show I ever saw featured every contestant doing some version of Barry Manilow's "Feelings." Must have been a formative event for me.

It's a good question J_B. What I laid out for me (in the Arab Goods Boycott thread) is pretty easy to be objective about, the difference between insult and threat is clear. Erik's standard is both more rigorous and more nebulous, but I support him on that. Here's a good case of the difference between individual moderators. Caveman bashing Allison is a different thing than Trask slamming DFA. One is much more about hate and the other a consensual free-for-all, and deciding which is which is a subjective call made on the basis of personal knowledge of the participants. That situation is an easy call by Erik's standard, but how do we treat some of the stuff slung at you and Sexual Chocolate? I've found some of that stuff quite offensive, but I've never had a complaint from either of you. I know my more lienient standard is not acceptable to you, but it does constitute something I can enforce that is not based on my personal sense of outrage. That said, Erik gets my support.

Okay Wayne, heard on the news this am: 71 identified cases in the US, no deaths. Its being suggested that it may become a problem on par with West Nile Virus or Hanta, something to be managed, but not necessarily epidemic. On the other hand, I watched Twelve Monkeys the day before all this went public, made me twitch a little. For those who don't know, the movie relates to a near future where 99% of the population has died from a manufactured germ with flu-like symptoms. Then I just had to fly from Reno to Portland sitting next to a guy who just returned from China. No cough yet though.

Okay, I've been out all afternoon and missed the most recent tussle, but some have been crying out for a moderator, so I'll respond. Ray's lame attempt at a limerick (complete lack of rhyme and rhythm, don't quit your day job) was a slur and not a threat. It's a riff on the despicable "Allison is a slut" smear campaign that has been around a long time, and is getting really stale. It made the utterly untrue suggestion that she would like to have anal sex with a group of guys, and I think Allison has explicitly set the record straight on that subject. What it was not was a threat to force her to do this. I think this was RBW's point. So how does it compare to other crap you all fling on each other, offers to cornhole, accusations of bestiality, and a host of other scatological and sexual slurs ladeled over various and sundry? Sexual Chocolate gets a vast load of this dreck mostly due to his political views. Necro both gives it and gets it. Trask and DFA are locked in an almost ritualistic mutual debasement. And I'm sure some of you are about to sling some at me. So what. Insult and slur are part and parcel of the Spray experience, and if you wanna play, you can't expect everyone to be nice to you all the time. Allison is a player in the game, and has a more than adequate command of the language to draw metaphysical blood should she choose. I agree that using sexual jive to degrade women is a part of the whole whore/madonna complex that fucks up many men, from Bill Bennett to Osama Bin Laden. But conflict is what some relish in this forum, and one should try and be fair and evenhanded in moderation. If I deleted Ray's stupid poem, I'd have to move on to taking out every reference to prison rape, and if I offered Allison protection from slur and slander I'd have to take similar action any time someone called Caveman a drunken psycho. So what's over the line? Direct threats, sexual images, pedophile references, racist bullshit, and probably some other things that punch my personal buttons. I'm only one moderator. Other moderators may have different limits and hot issues, and may have an entirely different reaction to this thread. If some other moderator decides this thread is just over the top and wants to shut it down, I'm okay with that too. You all realize of course that this only applies to Spray, and represents my opinion only. If you pull this crap in the Climbers Board I'll be glad to disappear it. If you do it repeatedly I'll be glad to ban you. People who don't want to bathe in bile need a place to discuss things too, and the Climbers Board is a much more civil forum for just that purpose.

Yup, remember Jim Madsen. That's why they're called "accidents."

Hah, I was on top, first I knew of it this guy climbs into view on the route I'd just led. Guess I hadn't schooled my follower to beat on the bastards with a stick. Perhaps we were supposed to be stunned with awe at the ability and audacity of the mighty soloist, pissant B-grade Yabo wannabe that he was.

This brings to mind a related story from J-tree, probably circa 1985. Soloing was all the rage, and there were several folks who got their rocks off by soloing moderate routes that people were in the middle of climbing, passing the second or trying to get on the route in between the leader and the second. These are one pitch routes, 5.7 to 5.9 we're talking about! I think it was on The Flake, 5.8 route on the west face of Intersection, that this twit did this to me and the beginner I'd taken out. I was soooo tempted to give him a swift kick to the ground from the belay as he smugly thrutched past: no one around, soloing is dangerous, dude just slipped, what a drag. I'm sure he has no idea how lucky he is that I'm a good citizen.

That "Sweet Granite in Renton" hoax, perhaps the most brilliant in CC.com history, still has legs. The "Fairwood Crag" is listed as an area on Rockclimbing.com. Check it out: Link Anybody got a convincing photo to add to their site?

Everybody sing: "It's a small world after all, it's a small...."

That's easy, going elsewhere is the only solution. Even if the line I wanted to do was open I'd likely be inclined to move on to quieter pastures.

Coffee break's over, back on your heads.

But then he'd have to wrestle the giant anaconda & stuff like that. But hey, it never occured to me, are Matt and Marlin related? (yes Iain, that's a young goat, cabrito as they call it at the carneceria)

Okay, this is the impromptu TR: Well, fortunately there are some cool things in the V-easy category, which is about my speed, since I boulder like a weak alpinist. Hero roof was everything the name promised. At the Buttermilks I prefer the patina to the grain, so some of those things up by stained glass were very nice, and Hero Roof was everything the name promised.. Sad Boulders were okay, but less easy stuff than the Happy Boulders, though fewer people too. At the Happy Boulders we walked straight up to the end and worked our way back, running out of steam by the Savannah, which was where we had pooped out when we went the other direction on an earlier trip. By day four I fear my poor northwest finger tips throbbed when I merely touched the holds while standing on the ground. We did have a fun day down at the Alabama Hills, climbing some less than vertical face routes (definitely a rest day compared to the bouldering) on J-Treeish rock without any crowds. It was fun and all, and the people, though plentiful, were friendly, and the weather was just about perfect. A couple days snowboarding at Alpine Meadows was an added bonus to the week.
