If you have to ask who the Nodder is, you don't need to know.
-
Well right on, I just love hearing a some good news for a change.

Mr. Panther, it's possible you're less familiar with the many faces of Olyclimber than others are.

"They died doing what they love" is just one of those meaningless comfort phrases people utter. You know, like "he's with the Lord now" and "I'm going to pray for them" or "I would so hit that." It doesn't "do" anything but might make the person who said it feel better. It sucks to be dead, but at least you don't have to read drivel online then.

[TR] Burgundy Spire- North Face via Paisano Pinnacle 7/31/2005
Off_White replied to skykilo's topic in North Cascades
Yes, it's nice to be getting some delayed TR's and photo stoke, like this one and Bill Coe's Epinephrine report at this dark time of the year. I've got one in my back pocket for a little later this winter. Nice route documentation Blake, this will make an excellent addition to the TR index. -
Not to mention that if you turn off your lantern you might be eaten by a GRUE.

Okay, maybe you're misfiled, it's entirely possible you're a Clueless Twit rather than a Ghoul. Map stations around the mountain? Jesus fuck, just follow the paved wheelchair trail and you'll be fine. Serious answer? There are any number of guidebooks that offer the information you seek (either BUY them or use your local public Library), and places like Mapzone will allow you to download topo maps. What more do you want? Conversely, you could hire a guide service. I'd recommend an AMGA guide.

best of cc.com TAUNTAUNS - WORTH THE WEIGHT????
Off_White replied to Cobra_Commander's topic in Spray
It's much more than 10 hours from Eugene to Flag, even if you drive like Muffy. Or even Snowbyrd for that matter. Anyone hear from her since she went to Iraq? I hope she's doing well.- 158 replies

If you're stuck in a snowcave I'd say a MILF is better than an MLB. Give me a Tauntaun out on the open ice though.- 158 replies

Kev, just because you're unfamiliar with Tim from your very short and recent residence here doesn't mean that he's a johnny-come-lately wannabe. Be carful, I'd guess more of the folks here would jump on you instead of on your bandwagon.

Beware Molly, we don't call him Hot Carl for nothing. Then again, maybe that's your thing, though I'd guess you'd rather climb into the freezers at the supermarket and play "mortuary."

A few important questions: What kind of rock? Is the rock surrounding the bolts smooth and flat or rough and convoluted? What kind of bolts? There has been good info on doing this in other threads here, as well as on Supertopo. "Chopping" is sort of a value laden verb, "removing" might make fewer knees jerk on either side of the issue. Sounds like a worthy project, take pictures and tell stories. I'll be particularly interested to hear if you can sway the locals to your point of view.

If you want to argue from the Libertarian fringe I'd urge you to head to the Spray forum where politics are more acceptable topics.

Summitpost.org has a good summary complete with pictures, timelines, and youtube videos: link When an official accident analysis is released, we will post it here. Until then, speculation is pointless.

Summitpost is a nice place that fortunately avoided being linked to assorted media outlets. That's a good summary.

Jim: the newbies forum has an enforced politeness policy, and does much of the rest of the board. The Climbers Board, up at the top, is also an okay place to ask questions of a general climbing nature. It might be best to wait a week or two for things to calm down, all the flap has folks riled up and feeling touchy, any community, online or flesh, can only absorb so many new people before the cease to be seen as individuals. Many of the people engaged in the wild speculation are not climbers looking for clues as to how to avoid the situation themselves, they are people looking for drama and vicarious thrills, rubberneckers at an ugly freeway wreck. High winds, zero visibility, hypothermia, and avalanche conditions are quite enough to explain their demise. It's likely a more specific analysis will emerge from official channels, but it won't change what experienced climbers already know: sometimes, things go wrong. Bear in mind that while this story has been played up, in part due to geographic and temporal proximity to the Kim family tragedy, it's not a unique event and most folks who've been in this sport for awhile know people who've died. We also know people who have died of heart attacks, cancer, and in car accidents, so I wouldn't make too big a deal over the fact that we are not dissuaded from doing something we love. The regulars on this site are all kinds of things, and like most people, different things at different times and places. If you want to find a home and friends here, it's likely you'll be able to do that.

My special friend Chinook is most certainly not a doberman, and I was assured that the photos Timm@y took with his camera phone will never see the light of day as long as I behave.

Hey Oly, I know what that is, THAT'S AWL!

Don't take this personally, but I'm surprised that you as an admin would post something like this.
