Yeah, lots of people in BMW's and Volvos who don't give a shit about the oppressive regime that Saddam inflicts on the people of Iraq. Who's the heartless group now? If they didn't care or have an opinion, why would they be there? People can give a shit, they just don't necessarily have to shit like you do. jason - "Peace" will ensure that Saddam's repressive regime stays in power. Thus, there will be no relief for those living under his yoke. Mattp - I guess I have. I had in my mind, protests and marches in general. I am sure "Peace" will work as good as it did in 1938. I can't wait for some nudnik to claim that "Peace in our time" is what we need; it didn't work when Neville Chamberlain tried it and it won't work now. Don't people learn anything from history?

Check with the local Access Fund chapter, I think they have the info. Also, do a search on cc.com, this was discussed several months ago.

Saw it; looks nice. If I had had more time I would have hit battered sandwich as well. That's a fun one.

Is End Run that 5.10 crack? I thought about it.

Not true. Riots in Chicago after the NBA victory in '96, riots in LA after the Lakers won. Rodney King verdict? Watts riots?

I just got back from the Spada Resevoir area and the gate IS open. No snow, just some water. My guess is that the rock up there should be dry with potential wet or icy spots on the ledges. If it's nice tomorrow, it might be a good destination. Get it now before the weather goes to shit.

I was solo, so I set up a fixed line on "Senior Citizens in Space" at Private Idaho. There are new belay anchors at the top now, so I didn't have to sling the tree. Did a few laps with a Petzl Expedition ascender and a prusik backup for a belay, sat in the sun and looked at the mountains. It was a beautiful day.

Okay, Mattp, I'll retreat to say "marches" and/or rallies in general, then. Look at all the sports-related rioting, the '68 DNC riots in Chicago (you wacky liberals!!), et cetera. In the past 10 years, or so, it is my opinion that rallies and marches have turned violent because people assume that their right to assemble means wherever they want to; including streets, public buildings, etc., and to do so unimpeded. This leads to a certain level of arrogance when confronted by initially congenial police forces just trying to keep things running smoothly. Case in point is the black church group who deviated from their march route and marched onto I-5 during rush hour. This was clearly illegal and these people should have been arrested or fined, but the police pussed out. My guess is it would have turned violent if the police had done what they should have done and removed those individuals forcibly if they wouldn't comply. Want to clog the streets? Fine, but don't be surprised when you get arrested.

The truth is that anyone with a personal opinion that differs from that of Greg_W is a moron. To believe in freedom, and the right to gather peacefully is a mistaken belief, and to think otherwise will result in physical violence (and that violence is deserved). And in keeping with the time honored and rewarded value of deceit, you would intentionally take advantage of people by selling snake oil. jkrueger, you're delusional, and quite mistaken about what I believe in. These protests usually end up in some sort of violence, mainly due to someone thinking they are untouchable simply because they don't understand their right to peacable assemble. The right to peacably assemble DOES NOT mean that you have a right to stop traffic, impede business, or any other violation of OTHER INDIVIDUAL'S rights. To do so carries consequences. If you chose to do that, great, but be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions. Let them assemble and protest, that is fine and I will be the first to defend their right to do so. However, it is disingenuous to exercise your rights by trampling on mine. As far as the snakeoil comment, that was simply sarcasm, so bite me.

We called them "advisors" back in '62. Looks like the can of wupass is slowly beginning to open. Yeehaw!!! God Bless and God Speed to our men in uniform!!!

Is this why gas prices have spiked of late?
-
I'm betting that if it goes off, it won't be peaceful and not too many people will actually march. A bunch of morons who mistakenly believe that it is their 'right' to clog streets without consequences will make trouble and then blame it on the cops. For those of you that get gassed or clubbed, you probably deserved it. Trask and I will be there selling Tom Daschle voodoo dolls and fake patchouli oil.

I like them for tripling up tied webbing runners into quickdraws. They seem to untangle easier with an oval than a wiregate D. I do like the look of those Omega Pacific D'ovals, though.

Good job. What did the East Face look like? Thank you.

I thought you were Jim Morrison's "chemist"

That's the date that Trask watched Liberace on the Ed Sullivan show and his testicles dropped at the same time. It was a turning point in his life.

Here's a serious question; one that I hope will lead to a good, clean debate: Do you think that the U.S.'s nuclear arsenal has been a deterrent factor in the world over the past 50 years? Since the "Nuclear Age" is roughly 50 years old, has our position as a nuclear superpower been a moderating or destabilizing force in world politics? I believe that Truman declared the U.S. the "World's Policeman" in the 50's. How would the face of geopolitics be different today if Truman HADN'T gave the go order on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? What would our relationship be with the USSR if Kennedy hadn't responded strongly during the Cuban Missile Crisis? What about Kennedy's foresight in pushing the "Space Race"? Has Nixon's entres to China in the 70's helped, or hurt, us and our allies Taiwan? Reagan's strength and focused drive are credited with bringing Gorbachev back to the bargaining table in the mid-80's. Would we still be in a "Cold War" now? Discuss and debate freely.

Foggy and misty out here this morning. I'm not sure what the snow level is right now up there, but the gate is usually closed in winter. Once the snow is gone, closure is based on the National Threat Level established by the FBI.

Yeah, but you give that to everybody. Can't I get something a little more personal? Just a warning, he doesn't bathe often, so you might want to reconsider that request.

Much jest is just jest, don't read to much into it. Except anything written about sport climbing, that's all truth. hehehe
