aiding's like black magic - probably all bullshit, certainly none so true as the more obvious way of worshipping the Many Faced God i haven't used them - are these slide steppers as good for simple jugging? for moving between free and aid situations? for existing in multi-day big wall environments? definitely agree one of the best pieces of advice for the aspirant aid-clibmer is to learn a way to practice solo, either by tr'ing (seems kinda ghey) or lead climbing w/ a solo aid device (easy enough w/ a common gri-gri, including on smith routes like monkey west face)

seems a bad idea to not have a daisy on your top piece - if it blows, you most likely lose the gear and the ladder (assuming you didn't clip the rope to the top piece, which you shouldn't do b/c that unnecessarily lengthens the fall you'll take if the placement fails) no reason not to have a daisy and a fifi - even if using an adjustable daisy, it's simpler and easier to just connect via the fifi in most situations, as you lose time having to re-extend the daisy.
-
1. use 2 ladders, not etriers - adjustable daisies are best (one ladder to each) - get a fifi hook 2. great multi-pitch is available at smith - west face of monkey is one (1st pitch is C1, hardest just above the initial bolt ladder), picnic lunch wall is epic, though after the c1 1st pitch it's mostly cheat-sticking on the massive 1/2 inch bolts - the 2nd pithc is a classic aid traverse, challenging for both the leader and follower (and mostly bolts)

it's hard to care when i've never given a crap about soccer - jesus, who likes running that much?

up n' left - kinda scary as the pro just shows up suddenly and it's haaard at the top - i've only tr'ed it - the variation you're talking about was there a long time before stone soup.

seems like a mostly positive message - i'm hopeful for the future and will plan on being at the meeting - the issue of opening the section of west-side rock just below the trail before jensen's seems really a no-brainer and a positive thing to focus attention on during the off-season

may: sphere - michael crichton yeah, yeah, i know - fiction is the weak focus of a fool's mind - reckon it weren't no better than the movie, but it made the miles go by... death grip: a climber's escape from benzo madness - matt samet didn't care to read a climber's story, which i expected given my wife'd picked this up from the library thinking "oh, it's about climbing, you'll love this" more the melancholy story of a dude born to madness n' drugging n' only late in life able to sort his shit out and get on the mostly straight n' sorta true - seems mandatory reading if you're on any prescription meds meant to slather over the demons you done tried to dodge too long - dug the writing style as it's of my own sensibilities, though sadly beyond my abilities i'm afeared enjoyed the erstwhile assertion: there were few sporto-retards in the way-back that weren't harboring a hard-edged eating disorder

WTF does that mean? Libtards promise a load of bigger government and increased spending, and they usually deliver. What exactly do they lie about to get elected? Well, "if you like your doctor, you can keep him," and "if you like the insurance you have you can keep it" come to mind. all lines from after elections and true for most folks at any rate, but that probably doesn't matter here anyhow agree w/ kk, which feels wierd - libturds are pretty out in the open about tax n' spend - conservatives by contrast preach a good game, but invariably end up spending as much on something else while strangling the revenue stream to boot

fine by me, i actually like my odds there doesn't matter much of course if neither pairing don't have the congress too - fucking separation of powers....

certainly aid climbers

should we even want to push kids to climb 5.15? seems like you need a raging eating disorder to make that grade

I'm not so sure I agree with that. I think the purpose of education is to train your mind and habits, to learn about your outside world, and about the species homo sapiens. Some stuff you learn will have little effect on "skills" relevant to daily life, but they all should add to one's quiver as a functioning, thinking human being. as a teacher of a subject easily throw on the cutting room floor (social studies and humanities) I of course agree education has a pretty big portfolio of responsibilities, from the sublime and ethereal to the nitty-gritty and easily-measured. my educational philosophy is thoroughly Jeffersonian

he seems to be missing the basic point, and I'm stumped as to how to make it simpler about 2$ a month is deducted from my paycheck and goes to a state-based organization called WEA-PAC - they use that to pay lobbyists, interview candidates, issue recommendations (political action as commonly understood) - I have no access to that money and limited ability to say what it'll be used for. about 14$ goes to my local union. I have complete access to that money (as a member of our executive board) and can do a great many things with it, non of which involve political action as it would commonly be understand. it funds scholarships, pays officer stipends, buys snacks for rep council meetings, pays for social events, etc. none of that 14$ gets punted up to the state-level.

My son was recently unable to finish a book he chose to read and write a report on (the Fellowship of the Ring). Just no attention span. In the end I worked it out that he could read the Old Man and the Sea instead. At 125 pages, and with very simple language I figured he could wrap that up in a couple of days. It took more like 12 and was like pulling teeth. I read the entire Lord of the Rings series in 5th grade. He's in 9th. I definitely see a shift in the ability of kids to read, focus and sit still. But then again doesn't the older generation always say the younger one is lazy and lost? :0) in fairness, though I was a voracious reader as a kid, I tried and failed to get through the fellowship I think 3 times before the first movie came out and prompted me to just move on to the second book, which was much more readable meh, kids are kids. they never were crazy big into books when I was one of them, and they don't seem to have changed much since I became a grown-up. the point of education is to get you the skills relevant to your daily life - sure, kids are crap at putting together more than a couple sound-bits worth of info, but then how long can one of my posts go on before EVERYONE stops reading? ours is an epoch of extremely short messages

this is a ridiculous view of teaching. maybe you should drop into a class room today and see what is going on. There may be a few bad examples you describe, but it def not the norm. I know, like, who uses VCR's anymore?
