hey, i'm doing that this weekend - quit stealing my ideas! did you do the 2nd pitch?

it'd be difficult for them to be bad at propaganda when they own 99% of the media: NewsCorp (FOX and more than 350 major media across the globe) and Clear Channel (more than 1200 radio stations just in the US) set the agenda and the rest of the corporate media dutifully follows. all fox gives a shit about is making money - if they could get more bank by sucking up to the left i'm sure they would, but those folks are more inclined to spend their cash on 10$ coffee-drinks there is no solution to this problem - news reporting is a business and it's a 1st amendment sacred cow - you just gotta yell louder than the other guys, sorry, which yeah, does reduce the finer points of the argument to secondary importance vis a vis the volume of your vocal cords

i found the "cetology" chapter a bit tedious Did you flip ahead to the part about the foreskin on the whale? no, and dammit, the cliff notes musta left it out! what about it?

queequeeg's tat's rawked! "And this tattooing had been the work of a departed prophet and seer of his island, who, by those hieroglyphic marks, had written out on his body a complete theory of the heavens and the earth, and a mystical treatise on the art of attaining truth; so that Queequeg in his own proper person was a riddle to unfold; but whose mysteries not even himself could read. And these mysteries were therefore destined in the end to moulder away with the living parchment whereon they were inscribed, and so be unsolved to the last." - Moby Dick - Herman Melville

i'm guessing Fart On A Dime?

j_b's link would seem to be just what you're looking for then. - and i'm sure that it mentions it somewhere on that website, but just boycotting alone is ineffectual, you need to actually communicate w/ the company too and organzie others to do the same - i'd be happy to sign whatever groovy letter you choose to knock up and send to the good folks listed there
-
regretably, i'm so damn poor i'm in actual fact pretty much boycotting everybody
-
why ask questions you know the answer to? obviously, when you're holding a shit hand, you bluff and play table games to try to bid time till the circle turns - republicans ain't gonna do well w/ the moderates they need right now, so they're playing a guerilla game, which as you know, they're not too damn bad at - it's a shame they can't play the majority as well as they do the minority (but then that wistful thought isn't exactly inappicable to the dem's either)

i don't teach elementary social studies, so i wouldn't mind hearing from someone who does - how do you approach the subject in an age-appropriate fashion? peanut gallery opinions? i think we can agree it should not be to glorify our leaders, but little kids are hardly discriminating thinkers.
-
indeed - perhaps this churchill quote regarding the unleashing of violence in the pursuit of your cause is apt? "Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."
-
good article link and it's conclusion is obvious - yeah, you can't have the freedom of speech and not have jackasses capable of inciting others to violence w/ impunity - just one of the thousands of annoyances of daily life - in the meantime, use what peaceful means you have at your disposal - boycott rush or whoever's shows and pressure their funding sources to get out - imus came up earlier as an example of liberal hate-speech - not that i listen to the guy, but i seem to recall he lost his gig, at least for awhile

Beacon Rock - Cleaning on South East Corner?
ivan replied to Plaidman's topic in Rock Climbing Forum
? the belay under the roof is before the little ladder up the slab - i think i've only used it twice, each time w/ a complete newb - plaid's right, a newb can get awful freaked at the crux, espeically since they can't see/hear you - i too prefer the slab finsih too, especially when soloing -
just so i'm clear before i go soloing through there again this weekend - this missing rock is on the traverse on snag ledge, right? not on the actual crux on the real 2nd pitch? that fucking thing gives me the willy each time as i can feel it flex under my hand, and once missing, may well alter the solo game for awhile

i'm doubting the talking heads voted conservative

fawk yeah! shit, i was figuring hte n face this year would just have to be a bitch!

i've used that belay before - if you're taking up a newb, it's nice to be right there as they pull the crux - it's a good belay spot too - an old bolt and good gear - that way you can show them the slab 'fore you take off - it makes sense too if you assume that you've stopped at the first snag ledge anchor -
jayb no doubt was the kinda student teachers fucking hate when they turn in a 20 page paper instead of the assigned standard 5 paragraph guy i'm sure it's great stuff man, but i hope you're doing it for you own amusment, 'cuz i figure i'm officially crazy the day i start reading cc.com posts longer than say, 500 words if you can't dazzle'em w/ brilliance, baffle'em w/ bullshit!

the newer religions just co-opted the old ones - posedion worship didn't dissappear, it was just transformed - the 20/21st century cults of personality are just another point on that continium
