we're essentially born w/ emotions that are intolerant - we must learn to act tolerant towards The Others
if he continued as you say above:"When black people stand behind me at the grocery store, I get nervous. But then I take a deep breath, remind myself everythign is fine and that most folks (black or not) are peaceful and law-abiding, and smile at them and say "howdy"" - would that be so horrible?
