  1. Please don't!!! Think of the earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that would result! Please! Think of the children!
  2. Pfffffttt!!! I already took that class. Here is a pic from my first day: Snuggie, you should combine your trapeze and viola lesson!: "Traskpeze"?
  3. On the bright side, six months from now there will be advertisements in all the climbing mags: EVEREST PERMIT FEES NOW $4.95/PERSON! We promise not to have any revolutions this season. Honest!
  4. To sum up - DrC says: Cap'n NOLSe replies: But wait! Then Dru says: and Cap'n NOLSe replies:
  5. I dunno there Mr. Official NOLS guy, I thought I might have felt a hint of a breeze once or twice while I've been out climbing in the cascades, and I could be crazy, but putting on my windshirt seemed to prevent that wind from cutting through my baselayer and making me chilly, but then again, I ain't an official NOLS guy with "experience in the outdoor retail industry", so I could be wrong. Those wiley, wacky retailers - it's just like them to make a product for rain and call it a "wind" shirt. SHeesh. They sure are dumb. ps - what does the "e" stand for at the end of your name? "Evicted" perhaps? pps - Crash, sorry, but it doesn't seem like you are getting very good advice on cc.com on this issue. Perhaps you should go talk to someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about. I recommend Jim Nelson. I recently read about the Montbell Ultralight Windshirt (2.6oz I think) with a supposedly 100 wash-proof DWR coating and a full zip. Might wanna check that one out. I've got the MEC Genie windshirt that Dru talks about below and it does the trick and was cheap. Cheers.
  6. Your post above reminds me of your post below:
  7. I suppose you could have just posted the above without quizzing the guy then? BTW: Jim Nelson told me the WT windshirts actually hold up pretty well getting scraped against rocks.
  8. Good lord, it's a shirt, not a spacecraft.

  11. Oh? Do tell.
  12. This is the scariest thing I have read in a long time.
  13. OK, well I guess I'll just shut up then. ___________________________________________ Here is a copy of an email I'm sending to Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray: I am outraged by the recent report that the Sec of Education paid $240,000 to radio commentator Armstrong Williams to promote the "No Child Left Behind" Act. This is illegal under the Anti-Lobbying act of 1919, the Anti-Deficiency act of 1906 and, and the 1st Amendment to the Constitution . This transgression should be prosecuted and those responsible (Secretary Paige) should be fired. Additionally, steps should be taken to recover the funds illegally paid out by the department. The health of our democracy is at stake! Sincerely, Email Maria Cantwell Email Patty Murray
  14. Radio commentator recieves $241,000 to push "No Child Left Behind" Act Bush admin pays actors to pose as TV journalists "reporting" on medicare White House rewarded magazines for publishing anti-drug articles. Stop Bush Administration Pay-Offs To Journalists In case anyone was wondering, it is not only unethical for the US government to engage in propaganda, it's also ILLEGAL. The Anti-Lobbying act of 1919 and the Anti-Deficiency act of 1906 make it illegal for the government to use federal funds for "propaganda purposes" or to "influence public opinion" within the US. This makes me very angry. Armstrong Williams (the journalist) should be sacked. Margaret Spellings (Sec. of Education) should be sacked.* George Bush should be sacked. Edit: *Apparently this happened under the helm of Sec. Paige. Too bad he's gone now so we can't fire him.
  15. Use the search function. Here is one THREAD.
  16. DPS, Don't you know the answer to this question already? Is this a: Cuz I thought you had been to AK & Denali a bunch o' times? In any case, I know a guy who wore plastic boots with regular stock liners without overboots and they were fine, but June 2002 was a pretty warm climbing season I think. I wore Everest One Sports (old crappy ones) and while they climbed like shit on the steep stuff and I wouldn't wear them again, they were plenty warm enough. I put chemical heat packs under my toes on summit day though. Both of my partners had intuition liners and one used insulated overboots. Niether complained of cold feet.

  19. 5.7c, A1 or 5.8b or 5.6-, M4 I did a V0-, A5 boulder problem in our campground. It is unrepeated and involved jamming one lobe of a green alien into a flaring pocket, standing in a sling attached to it, and then mantling onto the top of the boulder. I am sooooo
  20. It should be pretty easy to smuggle Smiley The SSSquid into the park. If anyone asks any questions, I'll just say, "Oh, he was one of the minor characters in the Little Mermaid".
  21. That thing actually looks pretty fun!
  22. It is Adelie penguins. And them's good eatin'!!
  23. I agree with everything Foolscongress said, but I'm going to expand on my own opinion because I'm bored and there's no good spray. I have very little experience aiding, but I have the metolius easy aiders and daisies and like them a lot. I got them for 75% off at the TNF store sale. I think I prefer the Yates daisies, but the Metolius aiders have been great in my experience. I think it's definitely faster to adjust them up and down than to try to work your feet in and out of reg aider steps and I like knowing that my foot is NOT going to slip out of the step - something I frequently worried about when using regular aiders. Worked great for me on Liberty Crack (my first multipitch aid climb). I think for jugging it's nice to be able to have your feet exactly at the level you want them rather than having to choose one step or another. Edit: OH! And for aiding while wearing crampons (Attn: Colin and other NR Stuart hopefuls) I think the Metolius aiders would be the bee's knees.
