That is hilarious!

I think he's saying that invading is wrong if we don't have the sysadmin to followup.

Funny thing, your former landlord is my brother-in-law. How is that for kharma, motherfucker? First of all, I was reducing my possessions as part of the moving process as a response to my landlord exorbitantly raising my rent. The rent hike came first. Second, turdmuncher is exactly the correct word. The letter documenting the $200/mo rent increase ($225, technically) had all this slimy BS boilerplate saying how in order to serve me best, they researched market rates on my behalf and are graciously extending to me a good deal. So much crap coming out of one's mouth is a sure sign of coprophagia. Anyway, the net effect of the dump fiasco is I'm being much less of a try-to-be-eco-perfect hippie.. I'm throwing stuff away in our dumpster because it's easy and I have bigger fish to fry.

"19 year olds can't shoot a gun with one hand and hand out aid with another." Bosnia was a successful nation rebuilding. If only we had followed that strategy in Iraq.

i dunno how well this will work, but.. fold a corner over a pebble. tie a noose tightly around the corner flap w/ pebble. Idea would be that the noose can't slip past the pebble.

Mark, you're correct, my bad. Anyway, I did an unscientific experiment in my apt, and it feels like it's easier to pull with a pulley at the anchor and a carabiner floating, as opposed to vice-versa. This follows the logic of wanting the pulley where the most friction is, but runs against the logic of wanting the best efficiency where if the system gets clogged elsewhere, you have the best ratio. So who the heck knows..

why use a glass?

Dean did do a guys calendar in 2002 (I have a copy). I'm sure the issue was marketability rather than sourcing the models.

that tax is retarded. people will just drink wine instead.

i like his ideas!

I think he's trying to say that pulley efficiency when using a drop loop is the least of your concerns. It's like if you're using a tandem prusik.. do you sit there and argue whether the longer one gets clipped closer to the spine of the biner than the shorter one or vice versa, or do you say good enough and get stuff done.
-
I'm confused by your definition. By 0% efficiency do you mean that the rope is sliding around the pulley or that it is not moving at all (as if a knot in the rope)? If you have a classic Z pulley and put a knot in the rope just upstream of either anchor pulley or floating pulley, the system reduces to a 1:1 either way. Regarding the revolver pulley, my guess is under a constant velocity, at either pulley position would be equivalent. But with acceleration, it might be worse as the floating pulley.
-
What pulley system are you talking about here? A classic Z is 1-1 if either pulley is jammed (mmm.. grape!). I'd have to diagram it out for 5-1, 6-1, compound, complex...

Highschool physics says the exact opposite. Ff = K * Fn Friction is proportional to the load. Sure there might be some nonlinear effects eventually, but normally I think of nonlinear effects arising because of drag, heat, deformation, etc., which I think would be insignificant in the realms we're dealing in. Am I missing something?
-
The reason for this is that a pulley behaves nonlinearly wrt force. Mark is correct that with ideal pulleys the force, and hence the proportional force loss from friction, is multiplicative. However a pulley starts out with rolling friction of the pulley against a bearing but eventually succumbs to more friction where the pulley is motionless and the rope slides over it.

We have a winner here!

Ugh. Now a bunch of innocent college students are getting raided and arrested. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/more/02/12/phelps.arrests.ap/index.html The sheriff in that town needs to get a life.

do you know what the phnum was supposed to be? maybe they can track it. maybe obama stole it when the SS wasn't looking.

Might be bad if you're an Olympic swimmer.

Do you get upset when others pee on the skin track? No. But it just takes one snowshoer to ruin a skin track for all following skiers. The collective need for ease for the skiers overrides the need for ease for the one snowshoer. More than one showshoer? Then they should take turns breaking their own track (which will likely be a straighter line than the skin track). An analogy would be that I don't own a public bathroom, but I'm gonna be annoyed if someone left without flushing their shit down the toilet. Or another analogy.. tokin' in the Muir hut..

you're the dumbass for following it. maybe they put it in just to get a workout or to screw with later visitors.

Furthermore, FISA warrants can be retroactively issued for taps up started up to 72 hours earlier.

that INT by Harrison was f'n awesome; if it weren't for that personal foul by Harrison, I think he should have been MVP i was disppointed Warner wasn't more aggro w/ Fitzgerald until the 4th quarter

check w/ jon.. we could ship them to iraq/afghanistan
