Many of the homes in south Florida have swimming pools too. Pretty common there for middle-income folk.

I don't understand. Doesn't your mortgage require you to have homeowner's insurance?

Rush just got into the mix on the topic: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_101807/content/01125108.guest.html

8:30 PM on a dimly lit street. You're welcome to walk to the vicinity of 17th Ave and Stevens Way and see if you find any blunt objects that could have been used.

it was dark. i looked briefly, but given i was on UW campus and the construction areas were fenced off, i didn't see anything usable nearby.

i was wearing sandals and didn't want crow juice between my toes

As I was walking home last night, a car ran over a crow, and it was left there thrashing and twitching. Somehow, the crow communicated a warning to all its brethren (dunno sound or phermones), and then I was surrounded by a chaotic chorus of crows in the treetops cawing. It was quite an experience hearing hundreds of loud caws from all directions. (as an aside, if i had seen a shovel nearby and put the crow out of its misery, what would the legality of that had been?)

people worship athletes who win MVPs who are druggies, rapists, etc.

how do his insensitive remarks embarass the Nobel? they don't change the fact that he played a key role in discovering DNA, and the discovery of DNA is only getting more significant each passing day. last i checked, the nobel prizes for the sciences were for your scientific contributions, not for your social awkwardness/dementia.

the tricky things about the Putnam are that it's timed (6 hours for 12 problems), and they're stingy on partial credit. the percent of people who get at least N questions right (get >= N*10 points) is roughly equal to 1/2^N. For example, looking at the 2003 stats, there were about 3000 total takers, 1000 got 10 points or more, 400 got 20 points or more, 100 got 40 points or more, 10 got 80 or more, and the winner was 110.

i remember taking that test almost 10 years ago.. i'd feel happy if i solved more than 2 of 12

I'm glad the Hubers have the record now. Hans Florine seems more like a speed athlete than a climber.. the Hubers are much more well-rounded with FAs, alpine, etc.

Yeah. I wish the Enchantments and St Helens could be more like NCNP.

fyi, if i'm at rope-up, i'll be happy to provide a 5-10 minute slideshow as an opening act/appertif or as an intermezzo/visual sorbet.

who changes a pick on-route? wouldn't you change a pick at the car or camp, and have a spare tool instead? also couldn't you just have the bad set of tools be w/ the follower and the leader use the good set? i suppose you could have picks on multiple tools break, but that seems unlikely. speaking of broken picks, i recall egratz finishing the lead of the last pitch of Nemesis with a broken pick..

Toe-tapping is the new secret handshake for Republicans.

yeah, money is the top reason people divorce.

looking to share a ride to rope-up.. leave seattle midday Sat, come back sometime Sun, preferably not too late climbing would be fine, but the main priority would be to par-tay

i have their Segmentation Fault shotglass.

I have a copy of the men's calendar at home, and I don't believe any junk is showing in any shot. (if there's interest, I'll bring it to a pub club or to ropeup if i can find the time to go)

Five years ago, Dean's plan was for an eventual coffee book. Dunno if that's changed.
