At 50 I am justifying climbing by reasoning that it is good for my kids. My kids are young teenagers and almost on auto-pilot. They still need a good whacking now and then so I have to stay in shape to be able to catch them. Climbing helps a lot. Especially when there are two that need whacking at the same time. When was the last time you tried to catch two teenagers, hold them down, and inflict more pain on them than they do on you? I find that the more I climb, the faster I catch em and the more pain they feel. Can't wait til they both have boyfriends.......

If you block out the script and the war scenes it is fantastic.

I was up in the Commonwealth basin Sunday and there were 2" fresh powder and no wind. I imagine last night's winds loaded the leeward slopes pretty badly though. Saturday, there was some melting up to about 5000.

The cheepest lodging in Missoula is my father's house. Can't say much for the food or the dog hair though.

This is what I have used for ten years. Actually, this newer one has one more pole than mine. It has weathered some good storms and I have never gotten wet in it. Downside is 9lbs. Upside, cheap and fully functional. The vestibule is important.

If you weather a serious winter storm, a 4season tent will be just comfortable. Anything else will be a struggle to keep dry and warm in.

I think this being a bill certain to fail, Matt should preserve his political capitol and keep his head down. He may need the assistance of these legislators for some other purpose in the future and he will gain nothing by dog-piling on them now.

I used to leave the ice ax and crampons behind to save weight. But now I have aluminum in both and throw them in almost every time. It is great to have them for fun diversions and for changes in plans. Just a note for the real newbies; DON'T WEAR CRAMPONS WHEN GLISSADING!!! It will break your leg almost every time.
