  1. Good point. When climbing Seasoned in the Sun, just try to think of all those pockmarked scars in the rock as attempt to establish a solo face climb on either side of the crack

  6. BC mountainqueering club always does Se face/E ridge combo as it is quicker. Descending the full S ridge would be a total pain in the ass and you'd miss kick ass glissading stuff. Colin had the glissade of the year down the S gullies, linking snowpatches between boulderfields, carving diagonally without losing the turn
  7. After scoping out non-existing ice lines on Slesse that were more like icing sugar thrown against the rock, Colin and I decided to do the S ridge of Welch, mainly because it's one of those moderate routes I've always wanted to do but never end up doing in lieu of obscure bush battles. Horseshoe-up-the-ass part one: forgetting that the spur off Welch is both 4WD and a long way from the lake, just as we were packing up, along comes "Mark" from Abottsford in the full-on Durango offering us the five minute version up to the lake! (Can I still bash Durango drivers now??) So anyhoo, we bivied at about 4 pm and got about 15 hours sleep in the almost Alaskan light and we get going up hard crampon stuff to the ridge at its very bottom. Most people either do the SE face or only duck into the S ridge at the top cause its pretty monotonous, but I had always wanted to do the full ridge, mainly cause the word "solid" is included in Beckey, a novelty for the region! The route was pretty straightforward except for one detour to the east and an icy downclimb from the false summit. Horseshoe-up-the-ass #2: just as we're approaching the summit, we see two guys coming up the SE face. HHmmmm, methinks, a ride down? Thanks to Dell and Simon for saving us from a brutal walk back down to Foley Lake. Cool route, day trip with 4WD. Go do it.
  8. Pay the extra $20 for the Epic, it rox . Stretch panels, no frills stuff. the jacket is perfect for climbing, too short for skiing. The parka looks like a frick dress it's so long
  9. Allright, who's up for some shit this weekend up in BC?Snow/ice/mixed lines on the agenda. Give me a PM, I've got some ideas. Don't make me go on a solo death mission
  10. Yeah, i would have to say that Needles, CA has the best atmosphere in terms of cool people chillin way the hell out there. the place just feels like Pynchon's Vineland, if you know what I mean.
  11. Nothin comparable for free; best just to amass a collection of the real sheets, give the govt more $$, some of it will trickle downand maybe I can get a real job. Or you could photocopy them at UBC or a similar facility with a map copier.

  15. If that's the case, I might actually have to (gasp) go outside this weekend after three straight indoors. I don't think I'll go as far as climbing , that would be a little much

  21. That's some nice work boys . . Would have loved to be out but alas, SCHOOL FUCKING BITES SACK! Ahem! Put up some pics. ON second thought, don't
  22. I had 5 dungees in one trap three weeks ago in the Gulf Islands. The secret? A nice big piece of prime rib I dug out of the depths of my parents' freezer and left out to rot for a week They're basically just submarine seagulls, which are basically just airborn rats . . . Maybe rat tastes pretty good with garlic and butter, I dunno?
