  8. Yeah, I and others have run into similar problems on that site: the needs of climbers for CLIMBING info, vs, the geek factor of data mngment. there are some non-climbers (one mainly) who have taken it upon themselves for some strange reason to completely revamp everything, shit they know SQUAT about. It's a shame, I've put a lot into it at times. But think how DREW must feel it's what keeps him going
  9. Shite weather. This was a *colour* camera
  10. You might be a week too soon. Two days ago, there was NOTHING formed. Carl's Berg was a series of frozen drips and Rambles was super thin. Only thing in was Isodore Gully (WI2). I think we need a coupla sunny days after this snow to set up some melt/freeze action
  11. Total hit or miss. I spent five days in a tent in May of 2000, whiteout -30*C most nights. Got shut down 100' from summit by brutal winds, navigate down Athabasca by GPS. The next year a buddy blitzed the thing in May and it was like +30*C, short sleeves and anything. As the saying goes, if there's a cloud in the sky in Lake Louise, it's shitting on the icefield, or something like that Hey Ray, where did all your photos and TRs go on bivouac.com

    egg nog

Yip, I used to do a lot of 'em for the holidays. I remember spewing nog and rum in my Grandfather's yard one night. Grandma was pissed as Grandpa and I were both a wee bit under the weather. He did not spew though. I guess a 70ish guy just does not do that sort of thing. Great people they were. .

  20. T'was snowing beat hell on the Duffey three hours ago. No snow at all below ~1100m, so it'll take a while. No ice either
  21. That's like taking a fall down a WI2- with boards on your feet and pretending you meant to do it right If that's the analogy you want to draw...Just remember you'll always be a wanker skier. wanker skiier is an impossibly high plateau far above my current gaper bumbly status. i have no where to go but up, and down i guess. Think of all those ice routes that could be had if you could ski. Far more than the turns that could be had if one could ice climb

    VETRANS!

Murray, by "vague" I meant comparatively general, non-specific. Canadians, and the Americans you point to, probably have a distrust of the current "war" machine, yes, but it is unfortunate that this distrust can lead in some to an ignorance of the two wars that were worth fighting. A stupid cartoon in the equally stupid newspaper, The Province, tried to invoke the sentiment that we should honour those who refused to fight in wars, and this indiscriminate distrust of all war overlooks what good can come from the right war.

    VETRANS!

Nov. 11 in US used to be Armistice Day, but was changed by Eisenhower in '54 to Veterans Day. The idea of the day for specific people reflects American patriotism, rooted in ideas of personal sacrifice for the flag, wherea the vague-seeming Cdn "Remembrance" reflects an idea or concept. Kinda fitting.
