  2. You should see my big toenail after our heinous ski-out... not pretty. I'm afraid to put my rock shoes on. But, back to the topic... I did the Spearhead Traverse a couple of weeks ago in twelve hours. For one of the guys with us, it was only his second day of backcountry skiing. He was fit, and an intermediate skier, but spent a lot of time screwing around with skins, bindings, etc. Even with that overhead, we still made good time, and were able to easily move at twice the speed of groups hauling overnight gear. To paraphrase Jim Bridwell (I think): If you bring overnight gear, you'll probably use it. If you don't, you're motivation to push through is pretty high. .
  3. Now if I could only figure out where this one is . . . anybody know? See attach : "Scenic alpine campsite. Some loose rock. No Crowds. British Columbia." photo by Sean Issac

  10. Ah no. Cool alpine on either side of the Fraser though, though it's too early. Lowland climbing right now, closest would be Marble Canyon outside of Lillooet, Harrison crags, or Arthur's Seat. All have their relative sketch factors
  11. Ah fuck Dinka! As someone who has done nearly the same thing 3.5 years ago, and somone who has something invested in your recovery by August, let me offer two points: 1. Before you fully commit to weight bearing etc, try to get a CT scan to determine other hairline fractures. No, I'm no doctor, but it is extremely hard to see all the fractures with just an XRay. This messed me up good when I actually re-ruined my ankle on the advice of the ER guys in Vancouver. 2. Your calf muscle will wither VERY RAPIDLY if you do not have a very intensive physio program. I am only just now at 100% on my left calf after 3.5 years (I was non-weight bearing for six months with now physio in place.) Get better dude

  13. You would have had a much shorter drive if you had gone to Jasper via Barrier/Blue River. I am guessing you went to Banff via Revelstoke. It is exactly 7 hrs from my house to the parking lot at Mt Robson, but about 10 to Banff.
  14. Take em back. If they're that loose now, you're gonna be swimming in them a year from now when they're all packed out. You should NOT be able to crank all the buckles down. If ya can straight outta the box they aint the right size

  16. I highly doubt that kick wax would have any effect on the grippiness of skins. Plus, if it's wet enough that your skins are glopping, you'd need klister. Glopstopper is a bit softer than household paraffin (which works great for hot waxing if you're cheap!), but you probably won't notice a difference. First hand experience only two days old reports that 1. Ordinary wax can be used as skin wax quite readily. No discernible difference. 2. Kick wax will greatly fuck up skins and will probably cause GREATER snow build up. Kick wax has a narrow (sub freezing) window of usage -- I went from -5 to +5 to -5 within about 3 hours on Sat. I waxed at the start and after going thru water then back to cold snow, my skis with kicker wax on em were pickin up freshies like shit on wool

  18. My WFA course years ago spoke of the benefits of yellow dishwashing gloves for this purpose

  20. climbing a variation is not repeating the route and although 3 or 4 routes have now been climbed on the face, no one has repeated the simpson/yates. duh? [duh]you didn't answer my question[/duh]
  21. Otay, a real question: who did they get to do the axshun climbing shots. looks as if they actually were on Siula Grande, so how high did they go (did they summit?) Movie says the route is unrepeated, but didn't Buhler do a line thereabouts called "Avoiding the Touch" a few years back
