  1. What was the aspect? Thinking there might be some strong variation in stability depending on solar exposures . . . (?) Yes, but it's a long slong in the forest to get there and I betcha they could've done the NHL all star game up there right now.
  2. http://www.colinhaley.blogspot.com/ Rolando Garibotti: Pretty cool.
  3. I like yer style. Points for starting a mountaineering trip by putting a boat on top of a car and then taking a bigger boat
  4. Cool. I think you'll likely need a helicopter or a hicksled as the road has been gated at the Hurley turnoff most winters for the past 5 years.
  5. I just saw on the news that experienced people use transponders and rescue poles.
  6. Road to Darcy/Birkenhead has a few WI2-3 options right on the side of the road. Should be in. See guide book.
  7. almost=exact means cut to fit a burnaby teenage mother While I would normally agree with you I received the MEC hoody in question for xmas and am presently impressed with the cut and fit. Presently.
  8. Might want to throw this thing in there even if it is unfinished. Doubt I have the patience / wherewithal do go after it: http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=547475 Upper sections look problematic:
  9. Dunno what I'm gonna do with my Sunday nights now
  10. I'm prediciting a rough few weeks at Whistler as they supposedly open Nov 27. Still 2 weeks to go I guess, but this time last year there was already 1.5m on the ground at Diamond Head.
  11. Ha, just saw this sandwiched between the ads for yuppie condos How'd you guys get them to publish such unabashed hydrology and climate nerd talk? Love Don's "in the long run we're all dead" final riposte.
  12. Up here it's a bit of a compliment. We even named a socialist as the greatest Canadian ever. http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/top_ten/nominee/douglas-tommy.html
  13. http://www.americanalpineclub.org/AAJO/pdfs/1978/canada1978_538-554.pdf Google turns up a note from Beckey in the 78 AAJ briefly listing the south buttress on Monarch. Details are lacking in the account. Don, do you know if this line is bascially the left hand ridge in the Scurlock photo below? If so, looks classy and moderate. http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/94682902
  14. I predict the Lorica uppers on both boths will fail at about the same moment.
  15. I, too, have often been incredibly anxious about the appropriate attire for that particular social engagement. I usually go with an open collar, but I once encountered the place full of ties and couldn't show my face in there for weeks. Smurf blue is obviously the hot colour this season.
  16. If you are talking about goretex bibs, then also consider MEC. If you are talking about softshell bibs, then yes the ArcTeryx gamma salopette is pretty much the only thing left. My religious fondness for softshell bibs been made fun of in previous threads along these lines, but I still don't know why softshell bibs have fallen off the market so much. Moving more than 10mins in goretex pants is a friggin sauna for me.
