  1. Which is the best use for Helicopter service to Everest: Heli-skiing? Ride to avoid the long slog home? Pizza delivery? Restock the Starbucks on top? Discus.
  2. Try carrying a map and compass as well as the knowledge to use them. It's one of thoses ten essential thingies that cc.comers ridicule the mountaineers about.
  3. Crank it, baby!

Yup. The Bolts on Outer Space thread (linking to iceguy.com) was vaporized. My witty rejoiner is lost.
  5. Poop tube.
  6. Those are infact bail slings from climbers who realized they were off route. The "real" third pitch of OS begins about 20' left of the crackline you climbed. What you did is apparently harder, or at least much pumpier. Like I said, I've never climbed it before and we only had Kramer with us. I climbed to the rap slings, so it couldn't be that hard (protected well), and I got past it by A0ing it up to the alcove. The crack 20 ft to the left was wet. The friction in between looked pretty slim for protection.

    Iceguy = Ascentionist
  10. Bullshit. I bet R&D sees more ascents.
  11. No, the difference between a flash and an onsight is pretty widely understood and well defined. You either got the beta from someone else by talking to them or watching them climb the route, or you didn't. Period. Footnote. Your definition may help YOU decide if you flashed or onsighted iff you have no mental defects. How does it help ME pigeonhole your style? Can I look under the lid? I am a trained neurophysiologist. My understanding is that your understanding of wide understanding is flawed. Actually, this is an endnote. But what do I know? I'm an untrained neurophysiologist without a windshirt.
  12. What's up with the rap anchors on the third pitch of Outer Space 30 ft above Two Tree Ledge? Bright red slings.
  13. I thought the traverse pitch was pretty sustained and sporty at the grade. There are several fixed pieces on route - an alien (?) deep in the crack at the first overhang, the rap slings, a nut as you start the traverse, and a new C4 Costalot 3/4ths of the way across - and there is plenty of other protection opportunities. I sewed it up pretty well. As a borderline 5.9 climber, I yarded on the rap slings (A0) to speed things up. Edit: Turns out the C4 cam belongs to Mr. Ascentionist.
  14. My apologies to all the other climbers on OS today. Neither my partner nor I had climbed this route before, so we struggled with route finding, especially since we were first on route and had no one to follow. Also my climbing sucks and I was reeeel slow on the traverse pitch. My car-to-car time was 13.5 hrs. Again, I hope everyone got off before dark. At least it was a nice sunny day to be hanging out on the rock.
  15. Yup, same problem. Didn't have this until I first replaced the battery.
  16. Scuba diving. Weather's always the same. 100% chance of wetness.
  17. The Mounties are cracking the whip for him to sell more books. Crrrrack! Thank you, sir. May I have another!
  18. Today blows.
  19. No, no, no. The fake story is about 40 midgets. The posted story is about 42 midgets vs. the lion. Duh.
  20. The Cambodian Government allowed the fight to take place, under the condition that they receive a 50% commission on each ticket sold, and that no cameras would be allowed in the arena.
  21. Pfft. That is sooooo '00's.

    OH THE DRAMA!

you're, not your. Well, to be honest, I didn't think you were smarter than that.
  23. Well, yes. But the basic facts are true. Google reads your email and inserts ads based on the words found in the text. This was news to me.
