  1. Only if you are doing them on mix. I don't do deep air any more...
  2. Commercial divers have been using underwater drills for years. Usually pneumatic, surface supplied. Cave diving is similar in the sense that you are suspended next to sometimes incredibly vast walls (does 300' by 600' count?). Also, crawling through some of the most awsome cracks (horizontal) so tight you have to take your tanks off and push them ahead of you, to get to said ampitheaters. Very much like the path you take to when climbing Frenchmans coulee. Similar also is diving at Lake Crescent. Sheer walls, 100+ foot visibility, so blue it breaks your heart. Why climb when you can fly??? Seems like a waste of a perfectly good tank of air...
  3. Dennis, how long have you been diving? You seem awfully fixated on it. Perhaps this list is not the best place to keep bringing it up. You are acting like a bubble baby who has about just completed your open water one checkout dives a month an a half ago and done 6 dives outside of class 3 at Alki, 3 at the Edmonds underwater park Jetty. I apologize if I am incorrect (and it's 10 dives) but that does not change the fact that this site is about climbing and climbing spray, not diving. One post about diving was more than enough Oh, and to bring this back into the thread of things, what did the sign say?

    oops

    ????
  5. It is called the "otter slide" by some... Nice for getting down after an ice climb by headlight, when you wouldn't want to be standing... Less work, can be darn fun and easier to arrest. Schoeller pants, nice, breathable, but don't glissade well, they have too grippy a texture.
  6. Argh! none of these sites have Mythos available (cheap) in Extra Pygmy (36) Drat! Foiled again.
  7. Gaston Rebuffat?
  8. Hah! You'll see me again, with doggy in tow... Just making sure she's socialized well enough to deal with all you... uh... climbing people... She's still a bit shy (as Allison can attest to) but getting more comfortable daily, even with the outdoor seating at the Dexter and Hayes... That and working till 7pm on tuesdays tends to slow me down... Get home, walk doggy, shower, look at clock, think "gee, it sure would be nice to sit down for a bit..." Yeah, yeah excuses excuses... Don't worry, it's nothing anyone said
  9. outdoor seating! outdoor seating!
  10. Outside seating! Outside Seating! For future reference, the Dexter and Hayes now has a nice bit of Outside seating, along with the expanded downstairs with pool table. A way for Dave to get away from the smoke???
  11. But since it was major drift figured I'd post it in spray... Came to mind when a post mentioned the friend who walked across the street from the UW rock to the UW ER after breaking arm. Latest amusing Trauma Operating Room story... Kid comes in with a both bone forearm fracture, but, unlike the thousands that have gone before, acutally has a VIDEO of the injury happening down at the local skateboard park. Yeah, of course we got everyone else from the news this Memorial Day Weekend, but I figure this is mild enough for general consumption... So, make sure you have your climbing buddy video-ing next time you fall, you could become a movie star if your injuries are such that the surgeon or ER doc wants to include you in an academic talk or something...
  12. How many times have you seen gumbies grab the bolts... Hmmmm... Kind of reminds me of the 'girlfriends' out on sailboats trying to impress the 'guy' how cool they are with all their bangles in attendance. My aunt lost her ring finger. A good friend tore out an ear ring... Maybe it is not the "same" as climbing, but ropes, cracks and bolts make for the potential of similar injuries... I thought about climbing with my cool thumb ring once when I was just learning. Then I thought better of it. It has been in my chalk bag to remind me not to be an idiot ever since.
  13. Hey, I did no "calling" of pub club this time, I only gave input... I thought that was allowed, oh master of ceremonies... I like the Elysian, perhaps because holds a warm place in my heart as the first pub club attended... Alki is fine too... Hell, I don't care, as long as it's in Seattle (west seattle, north seattle, capitol hill, whatever)
  14. Do we have a consensus yet? Owl and Thistle or Alki? (those are the two I've been able to decipher) I would second (or third) the vote for the Elysian, as the lack of smoke there is quite nice... [ 04-22-2002, 06:04 PM: Message edited by: icegirl ]
  15. I think posting the "Pub Clubs" there is a fantastic idea, they wouldn't have to be set in stone, just have the rotation and possible venues posted... AND, maybe a once a month Thursday thing could be added... One more thing to argue about (waste time at work)
  16. 4 year old (last two years in a cage - sad sad) And not Mike Tyson like at all She's sitting hear reading CC.com with me right now... http://staff.washington.edu/ljames/espresso.html
  17. Sorry I missed the fun! Sounds like a grand time was had by all... After getting clobbered on call on Monday night (7.5 hours, home after 2am), it just seemed like going to a pub club while on call was tempting the trauma gods. So, despite my desire to come hang with the gang, figured I'd lay low and hang with my new doggy. http://staff.washington.edu/ljames/espresso.html
  18. Hattie's had would be good, if we can snag the back room, and they don't mind our beer swilling (non-food ordering masses) or perhaps, Ballard Burgers (or something like that) I've been assured that it is adequate for our numbers, but have not had a chance to do recon... Once we settle on somewhere (be it the park pub, hatties, alki, ballard burger, etc...) someone (sure, I'll do it) should call ahead to the pub, as due to the size of our group it can put a strain on the regular Tuesday evening staff. (like our poor waitress a few weeks back at the Park Pub...)
  19. Ballard! Ballard!

    evil cc.com

    Hah... that was amusing.
  21. Speaking of Kilts... The men on my cycling team use "kilts" quite regularly, when changing at the track (Marymoor Velodrome) much to my dismay, they work so well that it is harder to get a free show. Of course the first time I saw them putting them on I though "what kind of people have I gotten myself involved with now... kilts?!?!?" Now I am impressed enough that I am thinking of getting one for myself to use while climbing into MY skinsuit.
  22. All right then.... let the "outlying" areas duke it out... Keep the gloves up, face protected, and when the ref says break it up, follow his orders... Let the games begin! Just remember some of us need a day to figure out who we are going to carpool with...
  23. Somebody help me out here... Where are we in the rotation again? Seattle x 2, tacoma.... right?
  24. Omak!?!?? have you actually lived there???
