Congrats! I got a pretty bad sunburn down on Mt. Shasta when I first started climbing on glaciers. Since then I've used Coppertone 30 SPF Oil Free for Sensitive Skin (less oily than some others), it really is sweat proof. For my lips I use Banana Boat Sport 30 SPF lip protector and have not had another burn in the mountains. Make sure to reapply the lip stuff often and to not breathe too much with your mouth open if it is really sunny. The sun reflects off your teeth and the inside of your lips and mouth can get sunburned. Believe me it hurts...

We're back from our 10 day adventure in Bella Coola - Chilcotin area. It was a great time, but a little on the unusally rainy side. According to the locals the Chilcotin gets occasional thunder storms this time of year, but it had been raining nearly every day for the past 4 weeks. Climate change? Thanks for all the advice on places to check out. We weren't able to get down to Ape Lake because the road is washed out 12k from the trailhead. Many of the Bella Coola valley 4WD roads had bad washouts this spring from all the rain. The place seems to be a little slice of heaven for anglers. The Chilcotin is amazing. I can't wait to get back there in better weather and do some more exploring. Dru - were you joking when you said we should ask the parks staff? What parks staff? There was a pretty knowledgeable volunteer at the info office in Bella Coola, but he didn't have much info about the park, other than to tell us that a campground was closed due to bears when it was really only closed to tent campers... The place is pretty deserted of parks staff and the people we talked to on the return at BC Parks office in Williams Lake were lame. I guess they've poured all their resources into a pretty slick web site and figure so few people go there it is not really worth staffing.

That was the next voyage the ferry took after my boyfriend and I rode it out to Vancouver Island the night before. It was weird to hear the news that it crashed on the return trip...

	Where was the pillar?

Korup - have you contacted BD about the failure? They'd probably love to analyze the piece and may even send you a new one.

This is really sad for the climbing community and the Mountaineers.

I will when we get there...but I thought some of you might have an answer.

Buddha_monkee, You can also get some info and pics here.

Hey there. 6 days till takeoff. Does anyone know if we can actually use the Rainbow Cabin as a shelter rather than bring along a tent for our overnight? Thanks.

Happy b-day Marie. I'll think of y'all having fun while I'm working... Have a for me. Cheers!

I've found that hyped up homeopathic remedy Airborne actually makes me feel better when I take it. I think some of the herbs in it help with the congestion. Dechristo - be careful not to take too much zinc as it has been shown to take the lead out of your pencil when you get older.

The parade was not as good this year IMO. It is loosing that Fremont, anti-establishment feel. But this was the one of the coolest parade costumes there. You had to stick around to the end to see the robots. Photo courtesy of my SO.

Nalo - His IPA is worth the drive from Seattle to Portland to pick up a six pack (or a case). But nothing compares to drinking it straight from the taps in Enterprise and then going climbing with the brewer himself.

That is very sad. I haven't seen any news reports and didn't glean that from Mr. Bean's post. I hope the family is gaining closure and is able to move on. -
Dogs are great and I am glad that the pooch in this thread was rescued without anyone getting hurt or bit. But, perhaps you people dissing on SAR should read this thread for a reality check. http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/462544/an/0/page/0#462544

Wow!!! I am so glad that he was found. This was a great post of thanks. I hope his recovery is speedy and complete. -
j_b: If the post had been about a real incident, fine discuss it here. However, scrambled_legs is just crying chicken little and that does not belong here. "Oh my, the sky is falling... fat people might get helicopter rides up moutains because they're rich." Come on... don't real climbers have more to talk about?
 -
Still not sure I see your point Legs... Your link is to the photos documenting the feat that was news a few weeks ago, not some press release or ad about flying to the roof of the world. And I had to google Rita Macneil and found out she is an overweight Canadian country singer. Fail again to see the relevance. If you're looking for a bunch of people to flame on about inexperienced or rich climbers going to big peaks, spray is a better location for your original post. I've heard nothing about commercial heli trips up to the summit of Everest. If that happens, I think TLG makes some great points. It's all about doing something in the style you chose. Someone else's style should not detract from your accomplishment. In general I think people who climb Everest wouldn't be so troubled and threatened with other people's choices on how to get there. They probably have higher self esteem than that, or they already know that the main routes on Everest are a circus and were okay with that when they chose to go. While you may see commercial potential because a helicopter can now fly that high, others may be thankful that there is a helicopter and a skilled pilot who can do resuce missions to get injured climbers off very high mountains in a way that may not risk as many lives as an in person attempt. Hell, maybe we'll be lucky enough here in the PNW to get one of those birds and we won't have such risky missions in our heavy helicopters that can't fly in anything other than perfect conditions.

	And your point is?

Maybe you just have to delete your cookies and then you'll be able to lurk.

My question is what you need a hood for since soft shells really don't keep you dry? They just dry fast and breathe better. In my experience they only work well in snow, and then for a "hood" I use a hat.
 -
WHY ARE PEOPLE LOWERING OFF THE CHAINS? Don't sport climbers know how to rappel?
 -
That sucks TLG. Glad it was cheaper to fix than you thought. Bored people can be real assholes. What gets me is why do they think stealing and destroying property is entertaining...
