  1. I disagree, I've never seen a placement that a TCU would work in and an Alien would not, but have seen many circumstances where Aliens worked when TCU's blew out while bounce testing. In otherwords, Aliens allways work. Just my experience, usually obvious in pin scars... I've seen situations where the scars were small enough in length that the TCU heads fit and the Alien didn't there just a touch longer for the same size cam. Both my TCUs and Aliens gum up, especially in the winter aid climbing in the rain. Check the caming action at the end of a trip and if it isn't good soak the heads in Simple Green and HOT water. Rinse well in hot water and then dry and relube with some kind of wax based lube. Works for me. You can also send the Aliens into the mfg and they'll replace the trigger wires and stuff for like $17 ea.

I totally dig the 10 deadliest spiders and snakes shows about Australia. I can't believe there's a spider that can bite through leather boots and kill ya. That country has some crazy animals. Just proves what geographic isolation can do. I hate those stupid decorating shows and the moster garage BS. Dumb...
  3. Shouldn't be but anything's possible. NOAA is reporting highs in the 70s/80s and possible t-storms in the high country in next few days. Sounds sweet. Too bad I won't get to go until next month...

Guess I shoulda paid more attention watching the Discover channel last month. You're right Dru. Must have got them confused with the Kimodo Dragon. Reptiles are cool.
  5. Forrest - the price difference is rediculous, but at least you can get it. I looked into getting life insurance a few years ago when I owned a house for the same reason you did and couldn't get insurance privately because I climb. Basically the advice that I was given was to max out all life insurace benefits I could get through work because they don't have the same exclusions. I was told that until I quit climbing for a period of 3 years no one would insure me. Once I'd done my time of not climbing, I could get insurance then start climbing again and they wouldn't care. Stupid system if you ask me.

They don't have venom either. The victims die from an infection caused by the bacteria in their saliva.
  7. Convince them that for strategic reasons your job should be located in a city far-far-away. Refuse to move when they make you the offer.
  8. Fremont's Oktoberfest is in Sep. Lworth's is in Oct.
  9. Is camping at Bridge Creek free that weekend? Or is it after the 15th that the camp hosts bail for the winter?
  10. Where's the TR? Did you guys kick butt or what?
  11. I found I was a weekend warrior a lot of the time last year while "livin' the life" cause most of my friends/climbing parters had M-F jobs and we could just get out on the weekends. I agree with whoever said something like once climbing infects your sould and you become an addict it's more than a WW thing. But then who cares about labels. We're all climbers TG. "It's" in there even if we can't get out more than a couple times a week.
  12. That works, or simply trace the topo and write important beta points on that page. The solution
  13. Are you talking about the West ridge decent or the East?
  14. Sugar = carbs right? Yes, but just like fats there are good carbs (complex ones) vs. bad carbs (processed sugar). Both have 4 calories per gram, but the complex ones also have nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) and generally are combined in foods that also have protien, fiber, and good fats. Problem with Atkins is that there's not much fiber and long-term that has its own risks. And if you're not taking vitamins you may not be getting everything you need for general heath.
  15. A friend loaned me a book published by the Mountaineers press called "Conditioning for Outdoor Fitness". She thought I might want to read about specific activites and possible muscle imbalances related to climbing and injuries. Thought I'd put it up here so people interested in specific exercises related to the activities we pursue can check it out. It talks about general fitness, has a bit of anatomy and physiology, covers muscle imbalances, stretching, balance, and has specific exercises for training (aerobic and stregth). Then it has a section that talks about the muscles used in specific activities and how to train. Happy reading.
  16. Nuts have a higher percentage of good fats and they also contain a lot of micro nutrients (vitamin B complexes and minerals). My understanding of ketosis is that it comes from the breakdown of proteins as a primary energy source. When carbs are severely restricted (or not utilized properly like in diabetes) the brain breaks down proteins to get energy similar to glucose, which is what it needs to function since it can't utilize fats. Ketone bodies are a byproduct that must be flushed from the system, thus the need for lots of water. The success of Atkins works with people who's bodies aren't properly using carbs. It's not for everyone, just people who can't seem to lose weight by any other means. A lot of people still utilize carbs just fine. Carbs in general aren't the devil. Processed sugar is. Stop drinking soda and eating sweets. They're empy calories with very low nutrient content.
  17. So Timmy, is that the t-shirt logo? Are you going to start selling them online?
  18. Dryad - are you trying to channel your anger or are you motivated to prove something by the person that pissed you off? For me blowing off steam by doing something physical usually is a good thing, but I get spanked everytime I set out to prove something...especially if it's to prove someone wrong. If I'm blowing off steam climbing is sometimes a good thing cause I have to focus on the problem at hand and sometimes I just forget what I was upset about. I guess my point is not to climb while distracted. That's just dangerous.
  19. Szyjakowski said: Is this still 5.8? It looked like a part of it recently fell off when I was out there a couple weeks ago?
  20. Actually, I don't think that fractal geometry explains the ability of ants to walk on walls and their relative strength. The wall walking has to do with their weight relative to surface area. Strength has more to do with having an exoskeleton and being small. So are lizards just really strong compared to their weight? and what about those crazy moves I've seen snaffles do near the bases of climbs? Maybe they have secret practice sessions to impress us "real" climbers.
  21. I know we're all pretty much on the same page here, and the issue has been talked to death... but the user fees are out of control. Each agency has some form of user fee that supposedly supports what our taxes are already supposed to pay for. It's totally *ucked in my opinion. What happened to the investigation that Newstips was thinking of doing? NEWSTIPS where have you gone? I buy an annual National Park Pass $50, we're charged $5 to park at state parks now or buy an annual pass for $50, you have to buy a stupid Fish & Game pass to park out in Frenchman's Coulee $15, and then there's the $35 fee demo program. The rangers are spending time enforcing parking tickets not policing the wilderness. We probably had to hire more rangers to police it too. This is rediculous!
  22. DOH! sorry i forgot that part Maybe you just need some more creativity. You could probably get sit starts on pitches that begin on a ledge.
  23. I think the camping at the venue is $30. If you're camping at the Coulee make sure you have the stupid Fish & Game parking permit. It's a $72 ticket if they catch you without it. Protesting it doesn't work...

    I need some advice.

Look both ways when crossing the street. In London though they just paint "LOOK LEFT" on all the street corners. Gotta make sure the tourists don't get run over for only looking right I guess.
  25. Depends on what you're doing... One of my packs has a padded belt, the other doesn't. You're so nice to be the strong man for your lady, Josh. Maybe if she has a comfortable pack she could go further and if she likes being in the mountains she'll train so she can carry her gear and get further out in the mountains.
