    CO2 is not a pollutant

RobBob said: ...and Jim and his ilk will be unsuccessful in forcing the rest of us to purchase the vehicles that HE wants us to drive. Hmmm. Don't think I said any of this. Just added some facts regarding population and rate of consumption, and gave some SUV stats as an example. So maybe your panties are in a bunch because ????

And as usual you're overeacting. If you read my post I don't offer any solution. Just some facts and people can make their own judgement.
  4. Recent Limbaugh qoute: "And now they fielding the all-jihad team over in Iraq. That's good because now we know where to find them."

    CO2 is not a pollutant

The richest 20% of the world's popluation have 150 times the income . . . and the world's wealthiest nations, which have 20% of the world's population, consume 70% of its resources" (John Miller "The Wrong Shade of Green" 1993). The industrial world also accounts for 90% of the CO2 emmsions. Today a car that gets approximately 27.5 mpg, like a Volkswagen New Beetle, will emit 54 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the burning of gasoline over its lifetime. An SUV that gets 14 mpg, like a Lincoln Navigator, will emit over 100 tons of CO2 over its lifetime. A Harper's Magazine writer took the massive Ford Excursion, the biggest of all SUVs for a test drive. During a drive around a city, the mighty Excursion was only getting 3.7 miles per gallon. It is estimated the Excursion will produce 134 tons of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
  6. Not to be a smart ass as I do need an altimeter - if it's so good why are you selling it?
  7. If you haven't yet you might try the paddling center on the west side of Lake Union, they have a board of used equipment. Might be worth a call.
  8. I think they have oil too and we have, what, at least 15 soldiers not assigned to some overseas adventure so why not. Somebody's got to fix the world.
  9. NPR is about as mainstream as it gets. There is no liberal, widespread media in the US. On NPR you get the same voices from the conservative Washington think tanks, Pentagon briefers, Wall Street Journal commentators, etc., sprinkled in with a few slightly left of center commentators. It's just that compared to the rabid right of the rest of the US media it looks lefty when it's barely center. While you hear both right (mostly) and left on NPR you'll never hear progressive views on widely carried programs like nitwork television, Fox, Limbaugh, etc.

    MARRIAGE

b]Muffy_The_Wanker_Sprayer said:[/b] why not marry someone who likes to do the same things??/ People often imagine that their marriage partner will meet EVERY need. That's an unrealistic expectation. You're not carbon copies and will have some seperate interersts - that's cool - as you can each learn something, and maintain friendships outside the marriage. That's healthy. It's the art of the relationship.
  15. There are some good yoga poses that help me with some chronic back stuff. It would be hard to explain in text. I'd suggest taking the "Heal Your Back" yoga class: http://www.seattleholisticcenter.com/yoga/workshop_heal_your_back.shtml

    MARRIAGE

Some are mutual friends, others are simply women I've been friends with for a while and a good climbing partners. My wife has some friends that are male; they're her friends not mine, but I know them. I don't get the fear thing about having friends of the opposite sex if you're married. If you have a good relationship and trust one another you don't have to cloister yourself.

    MARRIAGE

I'm married and have a kid and the overnight climbing trips with female friends is no issue. I've done some longer climbs and traverses and been out for ten days with female and male friends in the party. It's not a big deal - we're friends and that's it. Everyone is an adult.
  19. Ah they're probaby using some fuzzy math. We'll be just fine.

    MARRIAGE

minx said: i've never understood how one could settle for relationship with anyone less than an independent, passionate person. a relationship doesn't have to mean the end of such a life. My wife is into rock climbing but no so into mountaineering or the BC ski scene. I have a variety of partners for those trips, including a couple of mutual women friends who are great people and climbers/skiers. And there's no hint of any problems. If you're secure in your relationship and married to an independent and thoughtful person it all works.

    Red Rocks to Nome

I'm trying to work some climbing into a busy field schedule of September. I'll be in northern CA then outside LasVegas, and then up in Nome, AK. So I'll have a short day to climb at Red Rocks, what should I do? Gotta be 10b or below or I whine too much on the lead. Also - anybody been to Nome? I'll be tromping around the tundra for 10 days but could spend an extra weekend around Nome. Anything interesting to do besides looking for muskox?
  23. Having worked as a bike messenger and as a bike commuter for 20 years here's my observations: 1) There are limited idiots in cars who ignore biker safety. 2) Thre are limited idiot bikers who ignore all safety. 3) If you stick to the rules of the road drivers get pissed at you. If you bend the rules drivers get pissed at you. 4) If you're generally courterous and safe no one cares if you bend some of the rules. 5) It's the fat people in cars who get pissed the most.
  24. Fair enough on the first part. I'll send out a press release regarding the second.
  25. You just haven't yet come up with the inappropriately creative response yet. We have faith.
