  1. Big Lou Haiku: Big Lou is stand-up built a life most would envy what is up with Jim? Big Jim climbs for Dems mountains and activism! what's his avatar?
  2. Would you apply the same standard to, say, persons arrested for obstruction during a public protest ala WTO? Frankly, the guy in question should grow some balls and accept another form of punishment...or just fight the charges in court. I could really care less about the bolting debate either way...and I can see both sides. But when I read this story the image I conjur up is of some poor schmoe in the back of a flatbed truck with a shaved head and a signed confession hanging losely around his neck as he's driven past angry sidewalk crowds en route to his execution.
  3. One FS drone's definition. What's your point? The Wilderness extremists...and there are many of these "advocates" who possess law degrees (unfortunately), can twist both meaning and intent of The Act at will! All that is required to impose their view of wilderness ethics is a judge with a willing ear. ...And yes, I am serious.
  4. First it's motorized, then its mechanized (ie: mountain bikes). So which definition suits your beliefs this week? How about the motor drive in my camera? The mechanized skins and bindings on my skis? The wheelbarrow being used by the trail maintenance crew? My handheld GPS? My wristwatch? The kite being flown by a father and child?.... Wilderness Nazis! I spit on you. Repeal the Wilderness Act!.

    fakes

...Still only silence from Pope and MattP who continue to deny the existence of a biased mainstream media even while Dan Rather is swimming in a sewer of his own making.
  6. You mean guys like #71 on this page would drive this truck? WARNING: NOT WORKPLACE SAFE!!! Could that be Willie Nelson? gets my vote!!

This hard-core conservative loves a nice pair of breaststs! Nice link.
  8. Don't get me wrong! I think the monorail is a cool idea and a nice fit for Seattle. I just find it amusing that Seattle liberals get cold feet when they realize they won't be able to stick someone else with the bill. It seems, to me, a microcosm of the whole liberal mindset.

    fakes

Well said. You've got to believe that anybody (except possibly a Freshman at a third-rate college) attempting to fake these docs would make the minimal effort to match technology with the doc's creation date. Exactly! So why would Dan Rather go forward with the story? Answer: He has an agenda and let his desire for a Kerry victory usurp his journalistic integrity. (Again.) Are you now going to claim the source of the documents is The Bush Campaign in some sort of double-reverse-gotcha'?? I don't see how you can spin this one, Pope. Time to admit dirty media bias and "move on", so to speak.

Thank God you have CBS "News" and Dan Rather to counter this FOX outrage!

  12. Yeah, but when they voted for it the first time they thought someone else was gonna help pay for it! (They forgot to set up another tri-county comission!) When they finally figured out the $$$$ burden was theirs alone... Just wait until they have to pay to replace the Alaska Way viaduct!
  13. Classic j_b open-mindedness: Attack the source. Ignore the data. Post some windbag biased tripe link of your own for all to behold. Finally, hurl an insult or two at the intellect of your antagonist. The recipe never changes!
  14. That's a real stretch, K. Resort skiers have just as much right to enjoy our mountain areas as you or I. (The Crystal Mountain expansion is an example of responsible development IMO.) As I said before; this Adams proposal isn't real. It is just something put forth as a lever to acheive some other goal....a new casino perhaps.
  15. Hasn't Heinz inc. has outsourced almost 70% of its workforce in recent years?
  16. Don't you have some Lynx hair to plant...er... I mean study somewhere, Duchess? Maybe you'd feel better if you barbqued yourself some genetically indistinct species of salmon and ate it. You can even catch it yourself!...Legally! JosephH, you sound like one of those left-wingnuts who are actually hoping for a pandemic that will reduce the evil human hordes. ...Of course you and your offspring are always left out of this little fantasy of yours, eh? Maybe a virus, bacteria, or prion that would only wipe out the "lesser people" huh? "Virologist, Parasitologists, microbiologists.....tend to take a more wholistic view of the world.....". Have you ever met any of these people? Dude! RobBob is right....you're smokin too much of the Portland herb, and are suffering from a severe infection of the counter culture virus.
  17. I wouldn't get too worked up about this. It wreaks of a political power play between the Feds, The Yakima's, and the ski industry. 1)The agreement that The Yakima Indian Nation made with the US Govt in 1971 forbids this type of development. (But who could rightly blame a tribe for breaking a promise with Uncle Sam?) 2) The wind-blown sastrugi that prevails above 9000' all winter isn't the "groomers" that the Seattle/Portland yuppies are so fond of....and I believe the slope is too steep and avalanche prone for a snowcat and rake. 3) The whole idea sucks ass.... if even a hard-core righty like me stands against this, they don't have a prayer.
  18. "White Winds" by Joe Wilcox. About the ill-fated 1967 Muldrow Glacier expedition where seven of his team died in a storm. The entire book is nothing more than lame attempts to absolve himself (as leader) of any responsibility and claim that the tragedy was caused by some sort of "super storm" unrivaled in the annals of mountaineering.
  19. Putin is right. Bush and The EU are hypocrites if they continue to lecture Russia about restraint. Bush is a criminal if he allows Chechen terrorist leaders sanctuary here in The United States under the guise of diplomacy. Do the right thing here, W! Russia is a partner in this war against violent muslim extremism.

  21. http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showprofile.php?Cat=0&User=212&page=10&what=showmembers This is just terrible. He was a regular here and his posts were always . He'll be in my thoughts....and prayers too.
  22. Nice trip! When we did it, the largest of the ponds (called Ullin's Bathtub?) were still covered with snow and we walked across easily. Lake of the Angels was just melting out, but Upper Lena which lies at about the same elevation, was snow-free. Nice pics too! Have you ever been up to "Milk Lake" below Mount Bretherton / above Upper Lena?
  23. ... Might have had something to do with your comment about my wife, dickhead. I'm sure Toast will understand. Now go cry to the moderators you fucking sack.

  25. Maybe you should refer to your Pocket Style Guide. While not wholly incorrect, your redundant use of the word that in the sentence above shows poor style. In the first instance, that should properly be implied. I would expect more from a teacher. BTW, you're a left wing nut-job even if you do have an Appalchian, red-neck, hillbilliy name. And, uh, I almost forgot....Fuck Off. Larry the Llama molester, DON'T talk to me about tolerance. The tolerance you purvey is nothing more than self-hatred and limp-dicked (your words) denial.
