  1. Christopher Hitchens is a well-known and respected writer. (And a liberal, no less!) Who is Chris Parray??? Is that the best you can come up with Stonehead?? Pretty obscure.

You seem like an angry worker/peasant tonight, Cj. "Asshat". The word seems a little over used here these days. Please work on originality.

Who decided that selfishness is so evil? It provides an economic system that works better than the alternatives. Here's to selfishness, since a system based on selflessness becomes communism. Well said, Cracked.
  4. Liberal writer, Christopher Hitchens, has a few choice things to say about Farenheit 9/11 and Michael Moore. If the film was intended to "stir debate", then why won't Moore actually debate anyone on the material? Not even a fellow Bush-bashing liberal! http://slate.msn.com/id/2102723/

Sounds like a great deal! I think I'll just quit my job and live on the government's dime. Additionally, I think every citizen should be guaranteed the right to high speed internet, a DVD player, and home entertainment center...with 5 channel surround sound, of course. Where does it end?
  7. The position image in my original post is constantly updating itself. The craft's speed has gone from 35,000kph to over 80,000kph since last night!
  8. 3.3 billion dollars (and Euros!) riding on some pretty complex speed/gravity calculations. Hope they got it right. Money well spent IMO. The craft has passed within the orbit of Titan and will cross through a gap in the rings even while firing its engine for 96 minutes to slow down into its orbit. Cool stuff. http://saturn1.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.cfm
  9. Attempting to assasinate Bush Sr isn't exactly a benign act. That alone would be justification for our invasion, IMO. (Credit to Clinton for at least showing some balls when he retaliated by hitting Baghdad with his trademark 'cruise missile response'.)
  10. I guess you're just too young to remember Gulf War I.?? A few hundred American and coalition troops KIA...or the USS Stark before that??? I believe it was 37 sailors killed by an Iraqi pilot...in a Russian-built Mig....with a French-made Exocet missile. Sorry, but...what a stupid statement!
  11. He's 15 now. Been hiking & climbing since he could walk. Pics in the photo gallery. (Type "Fairweather" in the username...I can't figure out how to link it here.) He's in great shape and mom has given the "OK" for Rainier this summer. (He's been to Muir several times since 7 years old) I have an 18 year old daughter too! (Swimming, Softball, Skiing, and Dayhikes...but says no to climbing!) Great kids. You have much to look forward to Josh.
  12. The difference is that Kerry-and Democrats in general-try to claim "common man" status...most likely to appeal to their union member constituents. Honestly, I have no problem whatsoever with wealthy candidates...from either party. But one particular party seems intent on trying to portray themselves as something they are not. Additionally, they support ideas and rules for the general public that they aren't willing to uphold in their own lives. (ie: Driving away from an environmental policy speech in a Chevy Suburban.)
  13. A Harley?!? Those air-cooled V-Twins pump more shit into the air we breathe than a Hummer H2, I'll bet. And if I recall, Kerry also crashed his bicycle last year. Really messed up his hair I guess.
  14. Are you implying that the Kennebunkport place is owned GW? ...Even when you know it belongs to Bush Sr.? Clever use of the language Cj. Michael Moore would be proud. On the other hand, Kerry owns five estates/vacation homes worth over 35 million dollars and owns nive vehicles including a few SUV's.
  15. It's worked before, hasn't it...dipshit. I'm tired of people like you worrying about "inflaming the Arab world" and carrying on that "the best way to win a guerilla war is to not antagonize the population". In case you haven't noticed, the middle eastern world seems to be in a constant state of inflamation whipped up by the Islamic extreme. Regardless, I'm not sure history has validated your theory. We put down post WWII Nazi uprisings (in 1947) with public hangings. I'm not saying we should "nuke" anyone here, but I am disgusted that we loosened our grip around Fulluja only to have our moderation met with a higher level violence. It is obvious to me that this particular city needs to be weeded....or plowed under.
  16. I sincerely hope a few more terrorist "safe houses" in Fulluja receive a fresh dose of US air mail for this outrage. When you're wrestling pigs, you gotta get down in the mud. Burn that fucking city to the ground. Matt Maupin. We will remember.
  17. Think about it , Cj. Why else would Bill Clinton provide a defense (albeit tepid) of Bush administration Iraq policy?? He's not jumping on the GWB-bashing bandwagon....can you think of a valid explanation?
  18. Actually, Moore's film is providing aid and comfort to our enemies, so he is, therefore, killing our soldiers.
  19. Don't forget, G!... Bill and Hillary DON'T want to see Kerry in The White House. They want GW to win so Hillary can run in '08, and a Kerry win this season would set them back at least 8 years. Even now, Bill's thinking politics/strategy. He just can't help himself.
  20. Yes. And they also propose "improving" access to the Carbon Glacier trailhead by closing most, or all of Ipsut Creek Road!! Be sure to read the fine print. I posted the proposal here about a year ago...I'll see if I can dig it up. ...But then, you didn't address my point about the $$$ unavailable for WSR.
  21. Yes, but they seem to have enough $$$ to propose buying/adding land to the northwest corner of the park!
  22. Winter is an environmental attorney. He posts here regularly for help and support for some noble causes such as fighting proposed development on Mount Hood. But when it comes to preserving traditional access he is strangely silent...and now apparently is a mouth-piece for the NPS lock 'em out gang. True colors.

  24. Climb: Mount Washington-Route 1A Date of Climb: 6/26/2004 Trip Report: Took the kid up Mount Washington today. Climbed the snow free trail up to the Big Creek Basin where the visibility in thick fog was about 30 feet. We waited a full hour for a break in the soup to make sure we were heading up the correct couloir. No path in the snow or footprints were in evidence, and no other parties were on the mountain. The snow in the couloir above Big Creek Basin is discontinuous and it is now easier to follow the boot path leftward around the big rock buttress. The ledge across the top of this couloir is still a bit drippy/wet and I short-roped and belayed the kid up through this section as a fall here would be pretty ugly. (He did NOT appreciate this consideration..."Geeez, Dad! Are you serious?") The summit block ledge and that last little gully are snow-free too. The clouds lifted just as we hit the top. Nice views into the interior. Green! Gear Notes: Light hikers OK. Ice axe still useful. Tennis shoes will work in a couple more weeks.
  25. Especially funny in light of the fact that Winter is a minority. Weak and lame fairweather. Subconscious racism expressed in your syntax, Winter? That's strange. I read his bio on the website for the enviro-organization he works for. (He once posted a link.) The accompanying photo showed him to be a whitey like everyone else on this site. Nice try. Do you wipe his ass for him too, RBW?
