  1. No Bush connection other than "Texas". Cheney was a businessman in 1997. The Taliban had only recently taken power. 9/11 was still 5 years away. Sounds to me like we were trying to work with them in a productive manner. Glassgow's statement remains a bald-faced lie, and Matt's suggestion was both lame and lazy.
  2. Goddamnit! I posted an objective response that established that one of the premises (Taliban leaders visited Texas) is true, the other not true (Bush hosted them...although a conservative blog I searched indicated he "gave approval for the visit"); I passed no judgment otherwise! The fact that is was in 1998--pre 9/11 and pre GWB as prez--is also relevant, don't you think?
  3. Actually, the quote you attribute to me was in response to Kevbone's claim that Bush has 'shredded the constitution, and ground the economy to a halt'. When someone like GGK posts an outrageous claim the onus falls upon he or his defenders to pony up. Matt's suggestion that I "just google it" was dumb and lazy.
  4. So MattP's semantics are defendable, but GLassgowkiss' statement is allowed to stand? It simply isn't true.
  5. Entertain me.

    Wait!

We can drill horizontally north into Canada and suck all the oil outta their shale too.

    Wait!

I've always been partial to horizontal drilling.

    Pump North Dakota dry!
  9. It's the sudden drop in blood pressure too. What's the one about skydiving? "It's not the fall that kills you--it's the sudden stop."
  10. I am speechless…….you would vote for the guy who brought the US economy to a standstill? And ripped up the constitution? Wow! I know there are crazy insane people out there……but FW…….jeez…… Because neither of the two things you assert are true.
  11. I've always suspected that RFK was killed by the bullet.
  12. yeah, right. maybe we should also remember a visit of Taliban leaders to texas and hosted by..... gwb the shrub! Explain. I'll bet you can't. Saudis? Sure. Saudi does not equal Taliban. Why are you so xenophobic and hegemonic, Gutter Slop?
  13. I'm surprised those numbers aren't reversed. My impression has been that Obama backers would be vastly more incensed if Hillary "stole" the nomination--to the degree that they would retaliate by withholding their vote at the very least. Doesn't matter, since McCain is gonna win against either of them.
  14. I voted for Bush. Twice. And if the choices were the same vs Gore or Kerry--even with the hindsight I now possess--I would not change my vote. But this thread is about a Democrat who visited an enemy of this country and gave comfort to that enemy while standing on his soil.
  15. If the guys in black suits, sunglasses, and earbuds can keep GW safe from the whacked-out left, they can keep Obama safe from the whacked-out right.
  16. This is interesting. Are you saying Israel would be justified in retaliating against Iran vis a vis the attacks and kidnappings conducted by Hezbollah thugs across the border in Lebanon a couple years back? If a nation (Iran) can't control their dog--go after the one holding the leash! I think we're actually on the same page here!

  18. Don't know what to make of that. On one hand, I find it hard to believe that Iranians could teach battle-hardened Iraqi insurgents much of anything re tactics or strategy. On the other hand, Patreus hasn't really been a mouthpiece for the administration.
  19. McDermott's trip was not sanctioned by anyone. Not even his House of Representatives. Not even his party. He was there to make a statement. The fact that he was "unaware" of who his financiers were should make his duplicity all the more embarrassing.
  20. A very sweet, uplifting sound.

    Jokes......

A woman one legged amputee? Eileen. An Asian one legged amputee? Irene.
  22. Full circle. If you recall, Reagan was up against a Democrat congress that was sweet on just about everything commie in central america. I think it was house majority leader, Jim Wright, who was writing love letters to Daniel Ortega. I'm not saying that bypassing congress was the right thing to do, but communism still had luster back then, and many Democrats were still publicly enamored. Desperate times.
