  1. There's definitely a bus line that goes right in front of SG, dunno about Vertical World. VW is near the Fishermen's Terminal, so if you can hop a bus there, you're within short walking distance. Check out bus lines here: http://transit.metrokc.gov/ If you go to SG, just ask around and I'm sure you'll meet someone who will take you bouldering.
  2. Like I need street cred.
  3. Yep. Vertical World is the other one, it has more top-rope and lead routes, but SG has better bouldering.
  4. Yeah! There ya go!
  5. Fairweather, you didn't use the word "commie" yet, and you only got the fourth reply. Your spray skills are slipping.
  6. Anti-inflammatories, ice, and rest. Stop your compulsive albacore filleting. Oh, and "elevation": walk around town with your hand up in the air like you're the class knowitall.
  7. Dude, I gave you plenty of help and just a little attitude. Do a search on this site for the topic of your choice and you will find a lot of info, like on beyondfleece. For summer, if you need wind pants, just get some cheap nylon pants at Goodwill. Spray Scotchguard on them for a little more protection from the rain. A couple hundred dollars is way too much for softshell pants. Even the most expensive Patagucci pants are < $200. Get the MEC brand, they're probably pretty good. Or the REI ones -- I wear them all the time. I think both are ~ US$100. Or get the old-skool track pants like Dru.

  9. Get the pants already and try them out. It's not that big a decision. Didn't you already get copious detailed advice from the rockclimbing.com crowd? Do a search for beyondfleece, I think several people have ordered stuff from them. And see the thread on old-skool softshell. You can get a tracksuit for ten bucks and look supa-fly.
  10. Maybe that'll work on a boulder problem, where you just hop down when your widdle finger hurts, but who's gonna let a little blood stop them from finishing a route? I sometimes don't notice I'm bleeding until after I've already bled on half the holds. Chalk is worse for you, worse for the rock, and worse for the people who climb on it in the future as well.

    "minor correction"

  12. Where's that?

    UN says WHAT?

"Material" from "nuclear facilities", eh? Ever hear of nuclear power plants? There's not enough information there to assume that "nuclear facilities" means "nuclear weapons facilities", or that "material" means "weapons-grade uranium." Dual-use components are anything that can be used for a civilian purpose as well as a military one. Like high-quality pipes. Or centrifuges or fermenters. Any of these things might also be valuable to smugglers purely for their monetary value, regardless of whether they're used or usable for weapons purposes. You (and the "news source" you're quoting) are assuming way too much. I won't believe anything until I see real evidence.

    UN says WHAT?

Hmmm... SA-2 missiles are SAMs, used to defend airspace. Al Samoud missiles are tactical, short-range weapons. Neither sounds like a WMD to me. No actual NBC warheads or materials were mentioned in the article. Nice try. Though it is alarming that massive amounts of "scrap metal" are being shipped out without inspection.
  15. vs. vs. vs.
  16. Congratulations and condolences to you!
  17. I am filing a class-action lawsuit on behalf of speds and retards everywhere for your misuse of the term "specialed", which has infringed upon my clients' civil rights. Ron Olevsky would probably sue you for just climbing "his" routes.
  18. And you know we've gone too far when we've named the biggest mountain in Washington after some squirrel-piss beer.
  19. I read about Tomaz Humar climbing a hard new route alpine-style on Aconcagua that he called "Mobitel's Swallow - Johan's Route". "WTF is Mobitel's Swallow?", I thought. It turns out that Mobitel is one of his sponsors. He named the route after his sponsor and his dead friend Johan. In the same issue of Rock & Ice, some asshat named Ron Olevsky suggests that route developers should hold the exclusive copyright on route names and topos. All this makes me sick. I thought climbing was one of the last places in life where I could be free from corporate interests and, God forbid, intellectual property debates.
  20. Infinite Bliss' route developers likely didn't know that their route was in the Wilderness, since the USGS map of the area incorrectly depicts the wilderness boundary line, showing the route outside the wilderness area. Opponents of climbing in wilderness areas will be sure to do the research to find the true boundary, so perhaps, in these delicate times, route developers should do the proper research, too.
  21. So if it's out, I guess that means it's not "in". I was just going to ask what the snow conditions were like...
  22. That guy is on the terrorist watch list now for sure.
  23. Shouldn't American policy be heavily influenced by public sentiment? I think whatever encouragement given the North Vietnamese by war protesters pales in comparison to the encouragement they got from successfully interdicting our operations in Vietnam despite our massive firepower advantage, the support of a huge rebel force operating throughout Indochina, and the political and material support of big bad China to the north. Without the fact that we were losing the war and conducting it with increasing desperation and deception of the public by the government, the war protests at home wouldn't have been much of an issue. It doesn't matter to me if Kerry's words emboldened the enemy. We shouldn't have been fighting in Vietnam in the first place. "Winning" the war in the sense of killing all the bad guys and replacing Communism with a puppet government was just not worth the cost. I'm sure we differ in opinion on this matter, but note that the scourge of Communism did not engulf Asia and send the red hordes knocking at our doorstep as a result of Vietnam.
