Jeez, The pillar is the bomb. I am sure you will be back for it.There is some sick looking stuff on the way up to Snoq right now. -
[TR] Mt. Tabor Mastiff Winter Ascent - Western flank 12/22/2008
wayne replied to hippos_are_evil's topic in Oregon Cascades
Truly an epic in the anals of Portland Urban Epics. Rivals the Chris W Ascent of several years ago. The Mastiff part is a bit creepy though. -
You all have a case of cabin fever! I know mine is coming along just fine
-
Now that we are moderating , I wonder if anyone has viewed the area and willing to share with the masses? I have never been out there and really want to, Wayne

[TR] Index - Bridal Veils.....FALLS!!! 12/19/2008
wayne replied to Hendershot's topic in Ice Climbing Forum
The Jhampster and I did the upper and the right side of the lower-main tier today. There were a couple of other parties up there doing the same. -
Yes there is a good wi3 up there the approach is weird though
-
Yes I went to the right of that and Jared finished it with another rap-sling
-
38 was great, there is a fixed pin now at the start of the pillar. The route 100yds to the right(wi3) has a new top anchor, the approach is suck though. we rappelled down the approach afterwards
-
The snow was so deep and dumping (x38), I wasnt comfortable with parking and it wasnt getting plowed either. Maybe tomorrow
-
Yikes, I may go look at it . I wonder how Snow creek wall is shaping up? Somebody should go downgrade the N dihedral.
-
Got todays trip handled, Thanks

My job was shut down due to snow, I am looking for ice or ski partners. pm or call 206-818-1327, Wayne

I was disappointed to see a huge downgrade with Mongo. It seems it is now grade 5- 5.9. The tower grades are now irresponsibly soft-graded as well. Where the elevation was exaggerated! No mention of the N. Pickets Traverse either and Mike and Erics Blob effort was reduced to a footnote. Oh well

Ah the "Working Mans Trifecta" of Oregons Pinnacles. Steins, Turkey, and Wolf. I have a feeling Ivy will get there w/ someun

Dreaaaaam, dream, dream, dream, dream, Dreaaaaaaam No really though it would be great not to have to go to Canada for the fixns. I could have a very merry xmas! Decent water table Plenty of cold air up North Short days The event may only be 5-6 days Right now , all they know is that little blue tail is headed down the Columbia river gorge in Canada. The great enemy is the Pacific O. I will see if I can figure what that might do If the high tracks like the dotted line says, and it stalls off the coast, then I will sharpen the tools!

It is about a 5 mile appr. Where the trail comes the closest to the stream is where you cross . Stay in the trees until right adjacent to the wall. Some swacking, but if you peg it it is not bad. Getting through the bottom cliff band is done just to the left of the 2 big main waterfalls, up a hidden ramp. I would bet the road is closed though and the wall is unstable with half a foot of snow now on it. This is one of those early climbs.

I know you guys dont roll this way, but sorry if I stole any thunder on this one. I do get excited when I see something that looks so fun. It is interesting to have it a bit scary too, and I would consider myself very fortunate to catch ideal conditions on it. What a place we live in! There a only a few places in NA that can offer faces like that!Almost none to our south. Again, Great job and ,again, sorry, I accept my role as the class blabbermouth. I just hope it is never too annoying. :edit: In an attempt at redemption, I wanted to show a few photos from our (Rolf and I on thanks-giving weekend)attempt. It was a rain-out but I was happy to be there and honored to be asked along.
