  1. ah, PP, yet again you so wonderfully encapsulate some turd of conventional wisdom in a veneer of condscension and refuse to support your argument with anything save hyperbole. tra la la
  2. Oly: Getting pretty close right now. (To loosing interest) We only hear about Mounty accidents because they are identified by the media. Consider how that skews the perception of the Mounties. G-spot: Peter as stated is "core" Darryl should be because he's broken his arm and held a fall where someone broke their leg. Eric8 - I would remind you that I am considering two things. 1) The perception amongst some climbers that CC.com sprayers have more accidents than average. 2) The possibility that this may be true. As far as the 10k bit read what I wrote above. Cheers,
  3. It wasn't me
  4. G-spot: The answer is: it depends. It is not strictly a question of post count (sorry) In any event those who have made comments to me about the accident the on cc.com have a certain perception. Ultimately whether that perception is true or not (I think there is some truth to it) matters little. People have that perception.
  5. oh goody, it's another perception post. I knew you were a closet lefty pp. Cc.com has 10,000+ members. Perhaps you'd care to share your source for the statistics? Or why you chose to ignore the mountaineers climbing classes required to go on mounties classes? Or XYZ factors that change your data? Check out the blue.
  6. Let me clarify. When I refer to cc.comer I mean the "core group." Those "avatars" that would be recognizable by people who only lurk occasionally on cc.com. For example, Peter Puget would be a cc.comer. 10_2_Epic would not.
  7. Whether it’s a club or not is missing the point. The perception is that people who are identified as posters cc.com have an inordinately high accident rate. Given the very small number of consistent cc.com posters the accident rate does seem very high to me. Compare the thousands of Mounties to the handfull of regular cc.com posters involved in accidents and come to your own conclusion about how the rates compare. The Mountianeers are not some monolithic group. There are varied interests and abilities as in every large group. I very rarely run into Mountaineers while climbing. When I do it seems to be the same few Mounties (always small groups – two or three people) time after time. We seem to share some of the same interests. Posts wanking on how Mounties were clogging the routes and trampling the enviroment seem to indicate to me that there is great overlap of interests between significant numbers of cc.comers and Mounties. I guess I should note that "I am not and have never been a Mountaineer."
  8. Dru - my calculations are based on the concept of "general community perception." For example: CBS while a well known Mounty is even better known in the general climbing community as "that chemistry guy on cc.com." Using the standard of "GCP" he is considered a CC.comer. While the Mounties get slagged on cc.com several friends of mine have asked me about the appearently high accident rate of cc.comers. I too have wondered about it. I believe it is partially an artifact of the web.
  9. Someone should calculate the accident ratio of CC.com posters v. Mountaineers. My back of the enevelope calculations shows the Mounties falling behind. They'd better get busy.
  10. Of course I can change them to alomost anything I want.
  11. Here are some quick calcs on the cost of Mo's trip to Yosemite. My guess is a few years later when I first went to Yosemite the cost of gas was relatively speaking higher than it is now. CPI - 06/01/1970 38.8 CPI - 03/06/2006 199.8 Distance to Yosemite 943 (from Seattle per mapquest) Ave MPG 24.5 (my SUV coming back from Columbia gorge monday -average speed over 60mph) Gallons required 38.4897959 Ave price gas/gallon 2.89 (what I paid yesterday) Total gas expense 111.2355102 Mister Mo's expense in 1970 18.5 Mo's Inflation adjusted 95.2654639 Increase since '70 15.970046
  12. Warning: Any serious consideration of Laing will cause great shame later in life.
  13. Yikes! Thanks for pointing that out. Obviously this is a forgery as things like that never happened until power drills and sport climbing.
  14. I climbed Flagpole Peak ~25 years ago. Can't remember much about it although Rick Sumner once proclaimed a route on it one of the top five face routes in CA. Just spent 3 days in the Columbia Gorge. No one seems to have "discovered" any of our secret crags. All are on the Washington side of the river. What a great place you can climb in the am, jump on the internet at lunch and head to Trout for some sledding action in the afternoon. Snow is melting fast.
  15. Check out the NW names
  16. Roadhouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Let's make sure this doesn't turn into a spray forum.

sounds like a mixed economy like ours. How mixed does :"decisions and policies that only all of us acting together through our government" sound? sounds like a mix of "all of us" and "our government". Hey, I am not defending China--I think their policies, human rights issues, tariffs, etc suck. But a mixed economy takes a while to find its balance. Sounds like all of them must act through the government not on their own at least with regard to invesment decisions. I am not sure how you get an "and" out of it. Must be like the new math. Anyway I added China into the quote. The quote was from a speech Hillary gave last week at the Chicago Economic Club. Freakin' statist!

China needs the “right tax system [and] the right investment, including infrastructure. . . . decisions and policies that only all of us acting together through our government can make to set the stage for future prosperity.” What do you make of this quote? Sounds like he still wants a government controled economy.
  21. On a serious note, I agree with RumR here.
  22. So does that mean you can't get that rope for me?
  23. Yep I agree the whole thing is a stupid waste of time. He should have realized that it would have to morph into witch hunt.
