you can usually get through but count on having to deal with bs, going into immigration/customs and getting your car searched. you're better off bringing a passport or birth certificate if you've got one. as for staying in vancouver, downtown is definitely not cheap. there is a hostel downtown. and another out in jericho. and there are much more affordable motels on the other side of lion's gate bridge.

it does suck that seattle's income doesn't compare. but ... you gotta admit, seattle does have a few things going for it that those other cities lack.

i had custom insoles made for my tele boots and they killed. i had them redone and they killed. it wasn't just a little painful; i wanted to quit skiing altogether! i'm just not convinced that trying to make my feet like them is the right thing to do -- for me anyway. i guess if they are correcting other problems (like knee issues) i can understand the bigger picture there, though.

interesting read. when i was at yos i remember seeing a number of the climbers mentioned in the article. and while i think something probably needs to be done to rectify some of the issues at hand, it would be a shame for the valley to lose that precious continuity of climbing history.
