  3. quote: Originally posted by Jens: Let's define "climber" as anyone that gets out at least four times a year. Gets out and does what?
  4. what for climbing?
  5. good thing those guys had a gun! more people should camp with guns.
  6. quote: Originally posted by Dr. Ben Krazy: I soloed to Camp Muir last weekend ... whoa! you *are* crazy!
  7. quote: Originally posted by Jimbo: I am new to the area and I am looking for a good rock gym. Good price, good people, mellow atmosphere, and in Seattle. vertical world in ballard rocks for routes and hours. good bouldering, too ... if you like that sort of torture. mellow atmospheres anywhere are best found during "off-peak" hours.
  8. on the way back from baker there's a little italian place with good food and tiramisu to - umm - die for. in redmond (not far from smith rock) there's a steak place with peanut shells all over the floor. it looks redneck (and maybe it is), but the steak and potatoes rock!
  9. hey erik, i'll go with you if david parker will pick us up at my place on union bay.
  10. quote: Originally posted by erik: iain, it is no one's fault except your s that after you drank the kool-aid that you followed that gnome into the sewer. blame yourself. not the dirt hippies!!! "dirt hippies" ... heh, heh.
  11. we're going to bake ourselves silly [in the hot summer sun, i mean] at the oregon country fair saturday and at smith rock sunday and monday.
  12. beautiful!!!
  13. how much? and is it waterproof?
  14. it does sound like fun, eh? unfortunately "Not open to the public. Only authorized buyers and members of the trade will be admitted." not sure if there are any loopholes since i've never gone myself ... i just posted it here 'cause i know there are other people involved in "the trade" on this board. ps - will be in eugene for the fair tomorrow.
  15. all you gotta do is ask, erik.
  16. hey tg, i didn't mean to say you're a miserly old fart. i think it's great that you had the impetus to build your own - not to mention the time and the necessary tools. a lot of "problems" can be solved with a little ingenuity and some investment in time and materials; some of us just don't have the time, patience ... or whatever.
  17. quote: Originally posted by kainsacad: don't you think you could attract more people by running your own site! attract more people for what? meeting up in salt lake city to do some climbing next month? for sure ... i'll get right on that. thanks for the suggestion.
  18. we know you are, erik ... but that's what makes you so "special"!
  19. quote: Originally posted by Nelly: Lawgoddess - thanks, do you still need to surround the stove with an MSR type screen, or does the plate provide enough protection? it seems TG just made his own version of precisely what Snow Peak sells. you could certainly make your own, but they also only cost $8.95 so it's not a huge hurt to the wallet to buy one already made. and you absolutely do NOT need to use the MSR screen with it. it works awesome!
  20. actually it's on the right ... "cheek".
  21. yikes! no; fortunately (or not!) the rasberry was from decking off a trad lead the next day.
  22. quote: Originally posted by allison: Correction, I was showing off some bruises I picked up over the weekend. ooh; i should have come! i've got a nice raspberry wound i could have shown off too.
  23. It's like a big fair for outdoor retailers. Outdoor Retailer Summer Market
  24. erik: is there perhaps something you want to tell me? hmm???
  25. Snow Peak makes a GigaPower Windscreen that works ... and almost spectacularly at that.
