    hey fatty

saying it's bad for their health is one thing; saying it's bad for their love lives might be crossing the line.
  5. i have a friend that does this. he's not exactly rolling in dough, but he does well enough to get by without having to do any other work.

    Hey...

  7. Yes, ryland, you're entirely correct. I wasn't clear in my recommendation about closing accounts with $0 balances. I was putting it out there for Marie and others who do not have the benefit of extended credit experience/histories. It is good to have a couple accounts with $0 balances that are open. You have a "safety net" to fall back upon in an emergency. I have 2 such accounts (make sure that there are no "maintenance" fees that automatically get billed to the account that you might overlook paying in a timely manner) that provide about 3 months of gross salary coverage. But as you say, 5 or more such accounts is not good, as banks will look at you as if you're living off your credit cards and not within your means. It goes back to my earlier comment about Utilization/Obligation ratio. And closing accounts and then opening new ones also doesn't look good for the debtor, either. i don't think they really care how many zero balance open accounts you have. i think are more interested in how much available credit (i.e., potential debt) you have.
  8. yeah, i meant your computer.
  9. that does not sound good, marie. have you tried cleaning out all of your cache/cookies/etc. and rebooting? if that doesn't help, i'd say something is pretty royally wrong and you might need some professional help.
  10. the stupid things we do in college! sucks, eh?
  11. pretty much. if you haven't already, check out brouwer's cafe in fremont. they don't have my favorite (floris appel witbier), and they haven't managed to make a real belgian frite (though they've gotten closer than anywhere else i've tried around here) ... they do have a lot of belgian beers. i recommend the duchese de bourgogne ... yum!
  12. more fun than sitting at a desk staring at a computer screen!
  13. or when you stop being a wuss and ask for it.

  18. amen. that said, i prefer to keep my real name and real-world contact info off of this site for many reasons. there are quite a few people on here i've met and know to some degree or another, and when it comes to those people i certainly read more into (and/or get more out of) what they have to say. but when it comes down to people i don't know ... it generally doesn't matter to me whether they are using their real name or an avatar. (the big exception to that would be for posts from people like lowell skoog and don serl ... whose names definitely speak for themselves.)

  20. oh, and sounds like you two had a great trip. well, except for your son dreaming about real-world junk food the whole time. actually, all i could think about on my last trip down from muir was getting a big juicy hamburger!
  21. what's the rules on this anyway? you need a permit just to hike up to muir as a day hike? is the permit for overnighters/climbing? cost? is there a free/self-issued if you are just doing quick trip up and back? thanks no permit required to hike to muir. (climbing permit required to go beyond.) free "Wilderness Camping Permit" required to camp there.
  22. very cool that you got to realize a dream of yours!
