Both Endurance Sports Nutrition , S G Eberle and Nutrition for Serious Athletes , D Benardot seem to go with the drink lots of water theory. I'd be hesitant to jump to any conclusions based on one study, especially one aimed at average adult Americans. Maybe 8x8 is an overestimate for them but there seems to be a huge body of evidence to show that dehydration seriously impacts athletic performance. Drink when you're thirsty, drink more when you are sweating - yes. Hydrate before exercise - yup, and if youre cramping up you need more water and electrolytes. Pretty basic. Drink 8 glasses of water a day - no. It's In Style type pop culture bullshit. on the same order as the incorrect 'fact' that humans only use 10% of their brains. "Almost everyone is dehydrated and doesn't know it" - text of an Evian ad - total BS. Off to have my 3rd coffee of the day now!! -
I do believe the summit you refer to as Tubesteak Tower was first climbed by Les McDonald and Elfrida Pigou in 1954 and called Horsecock Pinnacle. However, you may have just made the first porcine ascent. Erik may be interested in the Whillans harness as an alternative to his upcoming vasectomy.

I will lay down my pennys for dru I don't want to get in a big debate here and don't get me wrong, I LOVE FIREMEN. My godfather is/was one for more than 30 years. This is my point, yes people should donate money to worthy causes... but sometimes when we are deeply effected by a situation we need to mark it, pay respect to it in a way that is personaly meaningful. Sending a check can not always fill that need. I consider the hike that I take every sunday to be my "church" So from my point of veiw what dru perposes is most meaningful and symbolic. i was suggesting somebody else do it not me... its a wednesday and im probably gonna be climbing bigwalls and counting goats in powell river that week...

Here is an idea for a symbolic 9/11 activity. Hike in to Depot Creek 9/10 Climb both Mox Peaks 9/11. Leave flag on top. Take that Bin Laden!

you can make some pretty good wine out of dandelions. the only downside to the batch we made was that there was a lot of sediment in the bottles so you had to be careful when pouring it.

theres a good section of the Anarchist's Cookbook that tells you how to make home made napalm from gasoline and styrofoam.

Nothin' new with dat. Hamish Fraser led the crux pitch of U wall wearing EBs on the wrong feet when he was 15 or something... he was too poor to be able to afford resoles so he just switched the feet so his worn out inside edges became outside edges... he soloed Beckey-Chouinard same deal...

quote: Originally posted by Ade: Cytomax is another good substitute for water. Dan's right, drink lots in the days before the climb. You should be drinking eight glasses of (uncaffinated) fluid per day anyway, try putting on more the days before a climb and drink lots on the drive to the trailhead (I keep a couple of nalgenes in the cab of my truck for this). Vicious rumour: Adding glycerol to water will help you superhydrate, not tried it yet but watch this space for details. Recent article in medical journal carried in most major news media over the weekend and/or on Monday, points out that the 8 glasses of water per day theory is so much pop-culture bullshit... average fluid intake FROM ALL SOURCES including water in food (ya know, lettuce is 96% water) and non-water drinks such as juice, coffee, tea, pop, mild alcohol should be about 1.7 liters per day for the average adult. -

Is there an "over two mile high club" for those who have used Rainiers summit for the purpose? Come to think of it, you would be over a mile HIGH in Muir Hut

an impersonitator is when you dress Mr. Potato Head up as Mrs. Potato Head.
