When they named the Colossal Squid, they did so to emphasize it could grow even bigger than the Giant Squid. Similarly, the X-word isn't going to cut it here, and Twight already has it copyrighted anyhow. Howabout "Hyper-Alpinism". Maybe you could bypass The Mounties books altogether and go with The "### For Dummies" publishers. "Hyper-Alpinism for Dummies" has such a compelling ring to it.

  8. Turner Lakes trail got burnt by a huge fire last year and may still be closed. It is def. worth hiking in to the Rainbow Range for the colours of ther ground alone. Bring rock gear for the crags near Bella Coola. It's like there's 5 Squamish Chiefs on either side of the valley.

  14. I was reading thru some AAJ back issues - is this same Fabrizio Zangrilli was the one who nearly got in a brawl with Koreans at K2 base camp over internet postings, and also had to get rescued off the West Rib of Denali just a few years ago?
  15. Zip Off pants are so 2001. Sorry.
  16. Have fun riding your bike up the "Big Hill" If I was you I'd plan on going the other way and FINISHING at Bella Coola.
  17. Hmm. I don't know about that. That doesn't really take into account objective hazards, that send you home, that happen on climbs in "good conditions". objective hazards = marginal conditions. there will always be another time with lower hazards. seracs, rockfall, forest fires, wet cracks whatever.
  18. this is why i never subscribe to mags, it's faster to buy it at the store... and the mailman never wrecks your copy bought my alpinist X at MEC today. pretty useless this issue except for Ama Dablam and Squamish.
  19. No wonder... I got a case on sale and havn't been the same since. That would explain THIS then
  20. You could spraypaint it yellow. website says not suitable for ice climbing! damn I thought "closed-cell" was gonna be the next hot trend after "bareback"
  21. I have only summitted once on three trips to Welch Peak. Truly, I am so suck In general, failure on a peak either indicates a willingness to attempt things in marginal conditions, or a low skill level. Let's say, though, that you go in to attempt an unclimbed route and climb an easier, already climbed line instead for some reason. Does that count as "failure" or "success"? Conversely, you try and climb an established route but get off route and inadvertently establish a new route. Did you "succeed" in climbing a new route or "fail" to climb an existing route?
