  9. def. of "pitch" is 1) the way the guy on the mound throws the ball to the batter (except in cricket - they "bowl" there); 2) when you try and persuade your climbing partner to go to a specific area, the BS you use for persuasion; 3) sticky stuff on your rope after a vertical bushwack; 4) how to get rid of banana peels, beer bottles and apple cores while driving; 5) an adjective added to "black" to describe how dark it was when you were rappelling and your headlamp died.
  10. i thought that was an al-Qaeda pretzel undercover operative??
  11. So I heard from Shaun Neufeld about some fat ice he did up in Manning... I went to investigate with Don Serl and Graham Rowbotham on Sunday. Two more parties had been in on Saturday and beat us a nice path through snow to the base. Nepopekum Falls is a steep WI4, 55m, that is easy for the grade because it is fiormed as 2 pillars and you chimney up most of the way between them so more technical than strenuous. My buddy Brent went in on Saturday with some friends and got bouted by the other party in the race to the route so they hiked down creeek to the next big flow and did it - a one pitch WI 5 with a 2 hr. approach up snow covered scree. This area is nice, high, cold and north facing, and will probably stay in shape for another month or so. Take snowshoes or skis for the approach. I was asked not to provide exact directions cause of the possibility of "14 carloads of Americans seiging it next weekend" so I will say - go to Manning Park - go to Blue Chair - climb nearby knoll - have a look see -follow your nose or tracks in snow. Hint one climb is called NEPOPEKUM FALLS that should help you.... Good day trip from Chilliwack-Vancouver-Bellingham area. Season aint over yet. Some of the stuff at Sumallo Bluffs is in but looks like scary loaded bowls above the ice - no thanks.
  12. freshie freshie fun snorkel snorkel face shot ski 'whumph' quick run away
  13. the one time i went to vantage i did some 5.7 chimney behind a freestanding pillar and the wind was blowing... the chimney kept changing size as the pillar swayed in and out sure was fun throwing loose holds at people walking by on the trail though
  14. quote: Originally posted by fern: be careful using a gri-gri for soloing on less than vertical rock. I took a stupid ground-fall from about 25' up because #1) I am dumb, #2) when I fell I was skidding down with the gri-gri between me and the rock, so there was no room for the cam to swing out and lock up. The gri-gri slid down to the back-up knot which put enough rope into the system for me to kiss the ground. #3) I am dumb. oh cmon, blame aliens or something. ALIENS MADE ME CRATER!!!!!!

  19. quote: Originally posted by Figger Eight: MattP is right. I think the original idea of tool tubes was valid, but if you have curved shaft tools with rubber handles, getting them in and out of the tubes is a lesson in patience. i got the quark and they fit in tubes OK even tho they got a weird rubber grip and all. i definitely like tubes better than loop and velcro but all in all its kinda about 6 of one versus a half sack of the other.
