Climbing gear stores will almost never sell either a single boot, or a single crampon. Apparently most of the people who are looking for single boots or single crampons are people who stole the demo boot or demo crampon from a store. I lost a boot once and nearly got arrested on suspicion of theft while trying to buy a replacement single boot. It was only when I presented my beat up old boot that they admitted I might, actually, have lost one boot.

Two clove hitches is just fine and less bulky than a bunch of gay prussiks in rainbow colours. To avoid crossloading of biner by GriGri, use a 3/8" locking maillon rapide instead of a biner. It might be 2x as heavy but it is 10x less likely to crossload because of the dimensions (long and narrow like a paper clip), and who cares if its heavy, you're aiding.

It is definitely too long for a day trip but a good overnight trip. Given reasonably firm conditions skis would be better but plan on climbing in the boots you ski in.
