E-burg - Due to that fine institution of higher learning there are always renters available. Though you are not in the heart of it you are half way between Icicle Creek and Tieton. Alpine Lakes Wilderness is also nearby. I take it your work allows you to live where ever you want.

camping above "traditional" high camps on Rainier

I would agree with CC and Bug. FWIW - Here is a schedule that has worked well for me is: Day 1 - Leave late in the afternoon and sleep right below Muir. Day 2 - Pack up and head to Ingraham Flats. Hang out, acclimatize and drink lots of fluids. Day 3 - Summit and descent day. -
I got a carpool lane ticket 2 summers ago and it cost me $86. I don't use it anymore in fear of increasing my insurance costs.

I used to live in West Seattle and for a workout I would run up to Camp Long, boulder around until my arms hurt and run home. It is not nearly as extensive as the rock at the U but it is a pretty cool little rock that you can do laps on. As an added plus, every once in a while the "hoods in the woods" will be doing a field trip there. Always entertaining to watch the counselors try to control the crowds.

Shizzle, I thought you grew up w/ OG's in downtown Atlanta?

The Mafia has a well established track record in the unions. Read a book about any of the mob bosses(Gotti, Luciano, Genovese, etc, etc.) and they ran the unions, usually with made guys that were BA's and Presidents of the the local. I have worked with electricians(IBEW) that have stories about paying some guy in the back of a Lincoln Town Car for allowing them to work that week. Payday was on Thursday and the Town Car would be at the gates of the jobsite at quitting time on Friday. Granted, most of the stories come from the east coast but organized crime and organized labor have a long history of working hand in hand. That being said I have worked on the management side of construction(all union shops) in the Seattle area for the past 9 years and there are pros and cons on both sides.

You can start by: A) Living within your means B) Increasing your marketable skills which will assist in increasing your pay.

How long do you think it will take before convicts start managing construction projects? Maybe I will be eligible to get a federal grant to go back to school and be retrained.

This was a tongue in cheek reference to an old, semi classic thread. Sorry that you did not get it.

The problem with OP screws is that they are manufactured by prison labor that is not allowed to unionize.

You know what I find ironic about this? The kids who grew up in the times described above are now the parents of the little bastards that are being complained about.

I saw that story last night. In the story I saw they clearly stated that the cameras were recording the area where the fire initially started. There was a belief that who ever started the fire would eventually return to the area. FWIW Pope, the US Government has had contingency plans for damn near every national matter that you can possibly think of for years. These plans have been laid out years in advance and can be pulled off the shelf, dusted off and modified as needed.

What do you have next to your toilet for reading material? I have a guide book for the Tetons, the new edition of Runners World and an old Sierra Trading Post catalog. Any preferences while your melting porcelan?

When I was in junior high one of my buddies and our girlfriends at the time rode a church bus to go skiing. We met at the church goers house and her mom(originally from Iowa) fed us full of scrapple - which tasted like shit - making some comment about it sticking to the ribs. Well about 2 hours later while crammed in the bus the church going gal pukes scrapple all over herself and everyone around her. Luckily I was a few seats away so she missed me. My first and only experience with scrapple.

I received a flyer in the mail stating the Federal Way REI was closing and there was a big blowout sale on January 6th. Anybody know if this is true or not?

CWU. As an alum, it is a great little town to go to school. You can ride your bike/walk to class year round w/ a few exceptions. Precipitation is minimal compared to the west side and there are lots of blue skies, however the wind does blow alot and the winter months can get cold. You will probably change your major once or twice between now and the time you graduate so I wouldn't get to hung up on that at this point in time. The school is big enough where you don't see the same people everyday but small enough where it is easy to meet people. Cost of living was cheap. Put your name on the list for all availabe HUD housing early. As said above, you have easy access to Vantage, Tieton River, Leavenworth and the Enchantments.

I have not done LR but have been at Ingraham Flats in June w/ a 20 degree bag and froze my ass off. I would suggest a 0 degree bag. Especially with the potential for weather/temperature changes during May.

What is the difference between this and other marketing/sales gimmicks from (insert industry) here. There is none. Buyer beware and if you are not an informed consumer you should become one.
