Right on Scott. I just think DFA just got a little carried away there. I bet he'll think about it a bit more the next time. I used to think shit like that was funny until I had kids. I got a Mazda B-2600. It works pretty swell for those mountain roads, but we've had to recurrently fix this annoying problem with it dropping into 4X4 lock without asking. Got it fixed (?) twice with the warranty, then it happened again last year (truck is a '93). They couldn't seem to figure it out at the dealership. Real hassle. (lotta money too )

Last time I was up there, if I understand where you're talking about, I found a 3rd class way up the last bit. There is a soutfacing headwall with a big ledge below it. I took the ledge all the way to the right then up a short little very easy dihedral up to another ledge system that runs up and left (west). Follow that all the way up and around the corner then there's a big flake thing you can squeeze behind. That gets you onto easy broken ground just below the summit. I definitely ran into places below that where I thought it was 5th class and didn't find a way to bypass them. Two steps above the notch. One was a nice handcrack in a RFC so I didn't really bother to try to find a way around.

seriously, my version (stuff that I almost always carry for one reason or another) sunglasses hat lightweight rain shell/windbreaker water knife just enough food firestarter I used to always carry a headlamp but I've quit that.

I'm afraid to carry my essentials across the border.

Right, an example of Saddaam's will. As someone already stated, he is in it for the power. He likes being a leader. He knows that doing something like gassing Isreal or using some "weapons of mass destruction" on some other US interest will get him dead dead dead right now. He does not have the motive of an Islamic Jihad. He is only in it for himself. He's not gonna act up right now and perhaps that is the whole point of this trumped up sword waving of the Bush admin. Matt's comment about the drunk German/Swiss guy speaking for all of Europe seems sort of ludicrous, but is food for thought. But we aren't going to attack Saudi Arabia. We don't NEED to. All we need is an intimidating Sadaam prancing around next door, and the Saudi's will do whatever we want 'em to (for a little protection). We are not going to attack Iraq. We're doing just fine intimidating Sadaam by acting like belligerent drunks. And how handy that is too, because you know belligerent drunk name-calling and fight mongering is just what will sell to a big chunk of voting idiots in a month. It's a brilliant win win strategy.
