What has been explained to me by Professors at the tunnel, which jibes with the above post by trumpetsailor, is that they are looking for "quantum gravity". Classical physics assumes that the effects of gravity are solely based on mass. These experiments want to see if there are basic differences in the effects of gravity based on the material. In other words, is the gravitational effect on a pound of lead different than on a pound of gold. I am sure that the radiation signs are in reference to radon accumulations

Even the BASE jumping web-site forums may have a low talent level. They still insist on XXXX'ing out place names of accidents, even though the recent rescues and death here and at Squamish have recieved national media attention. It's not like it is a secret

Or a plastic doll of Joe with a recording, and when you pull on the slings the doll starts bitching at you, on and on and on.

Rap hangers don't need slings or rings. Bolt hangers do though

I'm not denying that the person should not have removed the anchors, or that they did not know what they were doing. What I am saying, is that when software is used where hardware is the norm, people will mess with it. Manufacturers and OSHA recommend a five year maximum replacement age for fall protection equipment. In the aftermath of Todd Skinners death, many recommended three years for climbing harnesses. With numbers like this bandied about, is it no wonder that three year old rap slings are removed? No matter what it takes, you people have to move into the 90's and start using chains or rap hangers

Now that Joe and I have established via PM that I may know a thing or two about trad; I'm saying that whenever fixed anchors or the components which make up fixed anchors are used where reasonable people, rightly or wrongly, could assume that environmental conditions have weakened the system, then you should not be surprised when the anchors are altered. Webbing is affected by UV and other conditions. I am sure that you are correct that they remain bomber. But people still have a right to back them up, alter or remove them if they doubt the integrity of the system. And using three year old slings is not a good start to ensure the strength of the anchor, regardless of any fiats which you may issue.

You guys are smoking crack if you expect everyone to accept three year old webbing slings as being bombproof. It just won't happen, people will see old slings, and think they are tat

Guide Needed - Rainier Group Climb July 30th
num1mc replied to RainierGroup's topic in Climbing Partners
Do you really believe what you just said? Please explain how compensating someone for their time is not paying them. When you are in someone employ, you are now partaking of a commercial endeavor. I still thing that this is RMIor AAI trying to smoke out some pirates. -
Guide Needed - Rainier Group Climb July 30th

How do we know that this is not an attempt by MRNP or RMI to set up a sting against illegal guide services? Or if this is legit, I would have to say that advertising on an inter-net forum for illegal guide services is at best poorly advised. -
How tall is Bill?

This advice may be true, and is probably true in most cases It should be noted that the individual offering this advice is a professional western guide. His advice probably contains some degree of professional territoriality, western bias, unfamiliarity with the program in question, and conflict of interest

Real nice sales ploy that Alpine Ascent International chose in picking their name, choose the initials of the (then) best known general guide service in the NW, and siphon off some business. If one chose their guide service based on above board business practices, I guess they would choose the American Alpine Institute or Mountain Madness. Alpine Ascents can hang in the gutter with Vern Funk Insurance and the Law Offices of Michael Gallagher
