RuMR Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 Just want to say that I'm psyched! My wife started climbing for the first time in almost 7 years this sunday at the VW... Stoked!!!! Quote
Duchess Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 Congrats! Nothing beats having a climbing partner that you can crawl into the sack with after! Quote
fredrogers Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 But Rudy, did she give you back the contents of the pickle jar? Quote
jkrueger Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 You say stoked now... wait until she heads out to Yosemite for a week and leaves you with the kids... But seriously, that's cool! Seems you've been ever-patient and it has finally paid off. Quote

RuMR Posted January 13, 2003 Author Posted January 13, 2003 So how did climbing at Smith go last weekend???? Quote
sk Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 I didn't climb watched the boys have a bit of an epic on monkey face and froze my sweet ass off Quote
RuMR Posted January 13, 2003 Author Posted January 13, 2003 MONKEY FACE!!! My god, people, its WINTER...you should be up front!!! Sheeesh...follow the sun and shelter from wind!!! Quote
sk Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 ya, wind rain snow rime ice (or something like it) on everything. it was NUTZ... notice SK was not climbing Quote
jkrueger Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 Sun? It was so foggy we couldn't even see Monkey Face until we were an arm's length from it; and then it started raining! Tex was, as usual, unphased and got us through in true Oregon hardman style. Quote
jkrueger Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 If you can send in the rain, that's Oregon hardman style! Quote
RuMR Posted January 13, 2003 Author Posted January 13, 2003 No credit if it was a hard line...hard lines are steep enough at smith they don't get wet... HA HA HA Quote
jkrueger Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Credit is due then, as it was the West Face Variation (5.9R). The only dry pitches were the bolt ladder and the first pitch that I led. Once it started raining, we handed the rack over to Tex. Quote
snoboy Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Don't worry about it, any one who is any one on this board has two stars... Doncha know Well except muffy, jk and dru and others I'm sure I've offended now. Quote
Jens Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 As for spouses, Monkey Face Ruined Everything for me..... About 6 or so years ago when I was a newlywed I was trying to get my significant other into climbing. I took her for the first time on a beautiful sunny day to smith rocks. I figured something over near Monkey Face would be the ticket. As we neared, we saw a recovery in process. We saw what was a body being taken out. Since then, my wife refuses to ever consider any thing associated with climbing. How unlucky was that for me? It's been the only fatality I've ever seen at a sport crag in 15 years of climbing. The whole drive home, I've tried to convice her i t was a one time occurance, and that sport climbing is a safe activity. She has three life insurance policies out on me now. Quote
