Rafe1234 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Not sure if this fits anywhere on this site, but I'm a contractor in Bellingham looking for an interior finish employee. Trim, cabinets, flooring, paint, etc. I'd love to hire another climber, so I thought I might post an add here and see if it makes it's way onto the screen of an interested cascade climber. Job is all new construction custom homes. All tools provided. Job starting Jan 5 and booked up through the end of the year as this is being posted. Workload will be fast paced so prior experience is required. Hit me up if you or anyone you know might be interested in working a cool, active job with another climber! Thanks! Quote
ivan Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 i always dreamed about a life of working on trim - do what you love: i shoulda listened to my high school guidance counselor Quote
Rafe1234 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Hey that can go either way... mine told me to go to college!! It's a great job, especially living a lifestyle as a climber and skier and such... I dream of having Dean Fidelmans' job though.. Quote
glassgowkiss Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 not much skiing right now. btw, climbers make for one of the worst employees, I can attest to that. I worked for 3 climbing companies- my advice- hire a bunch of mexicans. After working as a production manager at Franklin Climbing Equipment, we basically stopped hiring climbers, as totally unreliable work force. Quote
olyclimber Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 what ever you do, don't hire a Polack. just kidding of course. like that excuses my remark. Quote
olyclimber Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 But seriously...."we don't hire climbers" is just as fucking racist. The stupid. Quote
Pete_H Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 What if he hired a mexican climber. That would blow Bob's simple mind. Quote
glassgowkiss Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 What if he hired a mexican climber. That would blow Bob's simple mind. Actually I worked with mexican climber at EP in 1990. If you hire climbers, don't make a mistake and give them flexible schedule. Quote
Ben Beckerich Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I've had similar experience, as a construction contractor. I was stoked about fellow climbers before I found out that the type that are interested in doing construction are the type that already have a well established pattern of life lethargy and poor decision-making. Not saying a climber can't make good labor- I'm a climber, and very squared away on the job site... so it's not impossible. Just rare. Some folks like to maximize their odds by pre-screening, and that's legit. Quote
Pete_H Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Funny, supposedly we are all climbers here and I would guess at least some of us have jobs and are productive. Quote
Rafe1234 Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 Depends on the person. I know numerous hardworking climbers who've started their own businesses in construction who were employed for several years by someone like myself prior going out on their own. As well, I've employed lots of shitty workers, none of whom were climbers. A lot of the previously mentioned negatives qualities found in climber employees exist in most people in the construction industry anyhow...figured I could at least have a regular weekday climbing partner! Job is filled anyways, sans climber. Quote
EWolfe Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Exactly 10 years ago, I would have been your huckleberry. Quote
