PullinFool Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 Anyone familiar or have any information about the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union? The website seems like a lot of the content is not current stuff, and we were wondering how active the group was here in Seattle. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 i don't know. doesn't seem like they're very active, but i know it takes a lot of work to keep a website current, and it could just be that they're deficient in that area even though they're working their asses off on "real" stuff. Greg_W Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 This is a climbing site, dude. Â Did someone hurt your feelings and now you feel you must sue the fuck out of them? Good move. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 actually, greg w, i think the aclu would be more prone to protect the rights of people to hurt other people's feelings. Quote
PullinFool Posted December 26, 2002 Author Posted December 26, 2002 I don't think I am the first person to use this site as a resource for information from like-minded folks... and to answer your question, Greg, my wife is interested in volunteering. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 don't mind greg w. he likes to flip shit - and we like him that way. Â the best way to find out how active a group is ... is to get involved. that way you'll also find out if you like the people and what they're working towards. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Yeah, I gotta flame somebody and, well, you were the closest target. Not too many targets today, what with most people off playing. I still don't like the ACLU, though. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 the aclu has it's niche. if it's a lawyer or lawyer-wanna-be we're talking about, i might recommend the national lawyer's guild as an alternative. Quote
PullinFool Posted December 28, 2002 Author Posted December 28, 2002 I don't know much about them either, but her concern is more with just being involved with a group protecting civil rights - they've taken a bit of a beating lately, it does seem... Quote
allthumbs Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 I suppose there's a need for groups like the ACLU. But not in my neighborhood. Quote
greghinemeyer Posted December 29, 2002 Posted December 29, 2002 hey trashk not much action in the trailer park? Quote
PullinFool Posted December 29, 2002 Author Posted December 29, 2002 It begs the question of what neighborhood you live in, given that "American" of "American Civil Liberties Union" suggests a larger area than one might initially consider. Quote
Scott_J Posted December 29, 2002 Posted December 29, 2002 Trask, I agree with you. I did not see the ACLU come to my aid with the SPD said hey white boy we don't need non of your ass here to hire until we have our quota of non whites. That was 1976 or so. I blew the top off the fitness charts, did very well on the written and psyco(HEHEHEHEHE) portion of the test, but my poor Finn-Swede skin just would not let me in. ACLU in my humble opinion SUCKS Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Oh, the travails of the historically oppressed and marginalized white male. The hallowed halls of history are piled high with innumerable examples of the seemingly neverending oppression of this unfortunate creature. Word on the street is that some white males are even out of work these days! Can you imagine? Â Listen! Does anyone else hear violins? And ... is that sobbing? Â Quote
Greg_W Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Fuck you, DFA. I liked it better last week when you weren't here: I could imagine that you were dying of a crippling sexually transmitted disease from too much cornholing Happy New Year, DICK!! Quote
max Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 .... but my poor Finn-Swede skin just would not let me in. ACLU in my humble opinion SUCKS Â Something makes me thing you (and others) are (ironically) confusing ACLU with NAACP. My understanding is ACLU isn't that interested in race relations. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Gee, Greg, it was pretty good! How was your holiday? Quote
MtnGoat Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 (edited) Sure good to see folks against the state, or employers, using race as a determinant for hiring or anything else..... supporting polices officially using race as a determinant for hiring. Â Justice apparently is found in punishing not the specific people responsible for acts you don't like, but someone their color is presumably close enough. In short, adding injustice to correct injustice is supposed to work. Nope, it just doubles the amount. Now that's something to work towards. Â Greg, did you oppress some black man, or "marginalized" person, in order to warrant having your job application ignored, so a position you could compete for on the basis of merit gets used as a "remedy" for someone *elses* actions? Â Edited December 30, 2002 by MtnGoat Quote
Scott_J Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 aclu naacp and all other left wing organizations are out to surpress all Anglo-Saxons. This is my personal take and I don't give a flying fuck what the rest of you cock sucking mother fucking left wing liberal pricks think. We are being told to be ashamed because we made a better place for our kids and grand kids to live in. I am not ashamed of being white or of Norse heritage. If any of you you are feeling you show be repaying others for what the fuck happened in the past pull your fucking heads out of the sand and look at the rest of the world. No one but the good old USA is trying to apologize for historical past deeds. What everyone did in the past is the past get on with life and go be yourself. I have a black neighbor that is a success... I don't see him out crying the fucking blues. He's out everyday plugging away doing his best to be a good dad and a honest contractor. I don't see him asking for repayment of slave days. I've got to go for a run my blood pressure is up. Â Quote
johnny_destiny Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 Supreme Court Justice Felix organized the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920, in company with Morris Hillquit (head of the American Socialist Party), Laski, Roger N. Baldwin, Jane Addams, Harry F. Ward, A.J. Muste, Scott Nearing and Norman Thomas. This organization was a socialist front pure and simple. Simple research will show that known Communists were also permitted high positions in the new organization. Rather than a force for socialist repression, the ACLU has managed to create an image for itself as the foremost American defender of individual liberty; of the right of the individual to be free of excessive Government. For the writer that said the ACLU was not interested in racial issues you better read more about the ACLU and its agenda. If you can't find the thread I'll post it later, but its easy to find just go to www.aclu.org/isues/racial/hmre.html Finally, I want to say this: I treat people as nicely as possible regardless of what they are. Black, white, Native American, Asia, queer, lesbian etc, what ever your religion may or may not be and another etc. but if you treat me with disrespect then all holds are off I'm sorry to say. And as far as this on line BS is concerned its all a game anyway. In person 99% of us would be civil and personable. Except you DFA go fuck yourself. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 31, 2002 Posted December 31, 2002 Johnny D., your dachsundine nipping at Dr. Flash Amazing's ankles falls just short of "sadly amusing," landing you squarely in "pathetic" territory. Â Please report to Trask for a spanking and stern, motherly reprimand. Quote
Scott_J Posted January 1, 2003 Posted January 1, 2003 I liked what I read. Mr. Armey will add a conservative view to the liberal front that the ACLU has always followed. Its like having my Rott guarding a whore house. She'll let you in but you better have the correct pass word to leave. Quote
allthumbs Posted January 1, 2003 Posted January 1, 2003 dfa, don't be usin' my name in vain wank. Â Quote
