amtrak amblings,

730 a.m.

the world is dirt

and bright sun

beautiful women and

bedraggled whores

it is light in the morning

and the screams of

lunatics by night

the first flush of spring

and the bleached bones

the vernal season

ultimately brings

the world is the hope

of hell and heaven

with a wicked smell

it is the grief inherent

in laughter, a crude

joke told at the funeral

of a beloved daughter

the world is what it is,

neither your's nor his

it is the going affair that's

headed nowhere

the dog that wags the tail

the berries that bring

the bear

there is equity in death if little else

though sure across  ages emperors

have fought with every breath to defy this

and so they rot in halls of gold

but rot they still do though

______________________

discourses in disaster

the circle squared

and the squared pegs

hammered into their

round holes

their voices of hope

all hollowed by the

indifference of the

common hall

the gilded king and

his horrid cackle

the cycle of silly synonyms

all meaning drowned

in ten-penny tin-can

weak boogie bullshit

through wind i wander
woeful with wonder
at my wounds
which marrow deep
must still me soon
and silience speech
yet gilt with sun
i walk easily in my gamboling gait
towards that tomorrow which seldom waits
and think on this which won't be done
