ivan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Mr. Barak, for his part, identified a new constitutional superpower: “Canadian law,” he wrote, “serves as a source of inspiration for many countries around the world.” The new study also suggests that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, adopted in 1982, may now be more influential than its American counterpart. Go Canada! #1 in hockey and #1 in rights and freedoms! congrats, but i bet you don't have an anti-quartering right! Quote

Go Canada! #1 in hockey and #1 in rights and freedoms! What good are your rights if your government maintains an absolute monopoly on the means and use of violence? Gotta admit though, Victoria is one of the nicest, safest-feeling cities anywhere. (Vancouver, not so much.) Quote

ivan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) What good are your rights if your government maintains an absolute monopoly on the means and use of violence? seems like the basic role of government when it comes to law and order - tribes don't settle disputes and punish offenders, The Man does. tvashtarkatena Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 I wasn't aware until now that violence was a basic right. I know self defense is, but its best weapon is the grey goo between your ears. Quote
Buckshot Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I'm not sure that every country CAN pattern its self on our Constitution. Thats why their efforts at fair elections always seem to fail; their culture isn't like ours so our constitution won't work for them. Though if we take Americas exceptionalism for granted we will lose it. Quote
Crux Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Yeah that, and we might lose fair elections too. Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Anyone who actually thinks Vancouver is sketchy should probably limit their vacation travels to Wild Waves and maybe the occasional corn maze. Quote

Gotta love these new personal attacks in the post-nasty era. (Try just a little harder.) Vancouver sketchy? No. Just kinda dumpy. Quote
