Hide Avatars??

Just updating my profile to change my avatar image (Pretty nice, huh? huh?), and I noticed a place to check whether you want to

"Hide Avatars of Other Users? "

 

Looks like the default is checked no.

 

What does this do if you check yes?

 

Please someone tell me what this does. As Cap'n knows, I need beta. I am afraid to try anything myself.

The spray-to-info ratio on this thread is beginning to suggest a change of venue may be appropriate. (now that I've done my part for that trend as well )
