Off_White Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Heard on the radio this morning that proposed state budget cuts include closing a number of DNR trails, including both Mt Si and Little Si (as well as McLane Creek Nature trail for those of us in Olympia). I don't know what they mean by "closure" but presumably they'll be gating off the parking area, locking any restrooms, and ceasing any maintenance or trash collection. I can't see folks staying away from those crags, nor do I think North Bend residents will be all that happy about roadside parking either. Quote
Rad Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This is a scare tactic designed to get voters to feel that taxes might be preferable to the "dire" cuts that would otherwise come. Quote
orion_sonya Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It does seem unlikely that they would close access since they just expanded the parking. It would suck if parking was shut down though ... people would be pissed and not just climbers. Quote
Serenity Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This is a scare tactic designed to get voters to feel that taxes might be preferable to the "dire" cuts that would otherwise come. Bingo! Pay to play...also don't forget your forest pass, the theft of your NOVA funds, Sno Park Pass...blah blah blah... Quote
Off_White Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 That's kinda what I figure is up with the proposal, still, thought it was worth tossing up for discussion. Quote
matt_warfield Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 There would be riots in Seattle if Mt. Si was affected. Quote
richard_noggin Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Yesterdays, The Chronicle, Centralia/Chehalis DNR, State Parks and Recreation and state Department of Fish and Wildlife to explore creating a single pass allowing access to lands managed by the three state agencies Looks like more pay to play Tax the rich till the rich are fat no more! Quote
Rad Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Tax the rich till the rich are fat no more! Actually, I think the proposal is just the opposite: tax soda pop and tobacco and anyone who frequents the Quickie Mart. Quote
Frankazoid Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 yeah sure thing huh- shutting down one of the most hiked trails around seattle... and this summer they'll shut down access to snow lake! what kinda bullshit is that. I wouldnt believe it for a second. Quote
ilookeddown Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I agree it is a scare tactic. Closing the most popular hiking trail (mt si) and capital forest (most popular ORV area on the west side) is a joke. Between these two groups there are a lot of voters. Quote
Jens Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 How does one "close" a trail? -Parking can be roadside according to County Law. If the trail to 32 is "closed", does that mean I can start using the shorter route again that we used when the Little Si sport climbs first went in around 90' or 91'? Quote
Serenity Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I'm going to start riding my moto on Tiger Mountain in protest. Quote
Frankazoid Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 well shit. maybe it's real considering its been all over the news the last few days. im gunna flip the fuck out if this has an effect on accessing my crag dude. might have to start hiking in with camo gear at night. Quote
