wdkingmnan Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 My brother and I intend to climb Raininer April 22 through 27 from Muir. Anyone looking to: a) porter a load April 22 to Camp Muir for money, or b) join the fun? Drop a line real soon. Bill Quote
highclimb Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 any money?... even if none i still might be interested...e-mail me about it....highclimb1396@hotmail.com Aidan [This message has been edited by highclimb (edited 03-24-2001).] Quote
kashmir Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 you pathetic climbers, you do know that PAYING someone to carry loads, guide, etc, without an IBP. Is ILLEGAL. Hey... now that you've included dates with your post we'll be watching! Quote
highclimb Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 well then i guess i wont be going then now will i ...haha. why did i even want to anyway. i should have thought about it for a sec before i replyed..haha Aidan Quote
kashmir Posted March 25, 2001 Posted March 25, 2001 I'm sorry.I didn't mean to sound rude but its pretty sad to want someone to haul a load up to muir for a climb. If you cant haul five days worth of food five miles then you shouldn't be climbing Mount Rainier. Quote
highclimb Posted March 26, 2001 Posted March 26, 2001 i totally agree. i just wanted a chance to get on the mountain. i will do anything to be up there. i hate not being able to drive. heh. Aidan Quote
SpongeBob Posted March 26, 2001 Posted March 26, 2001 Just curious, why five days and how much stuff do you guys plan on hauling up? ------------------ Â Quote
wdkingmnan Posted March 26, 2001 Author Posted March 26, 2001 Thanks for the words of encouragement! Being new to the BBB, I wanted to see who of you were ethical, knowledgeable, and sincere. Thanks, and good climbing! Quote
Bronco Posted March 26, 2001 Posted March 26, 2001 I guess that would make me unethical, unknowledgeable, and insincere? yep, that about sums it up. Good climbin' yerself. So how much money are we talking about? Quote
Rusty_Biner Posted March 26, 2001 Posted March 26, 2001 Originally posted by kashmir: you pathetic climbers, you do know that PAYING someone to carry loads, guide, etc, without an IBP. Is ILLEGAL. So is driving 26 m.p.h. within the MRNP boundary, but I bet you've done it with impunity. I don't know what law you're referring to, but 36 C.F.R. 54 (?) does say that is illegal to "engage in" a commercial activity within the park boundary. Guiding clearly requires a concession permit. I'd argue that accepting a gratuity for hauling a pack to Muir doesn't violate the statute. Besides, this is America. Even porters in communist China get paid to haul loads. Â Â Quote

mtnaire Posted March 27, 2001 Posted March 27, 2001 Now carrying both of them and their load to Camp Muir is where I draw the line... ------------------ Yoddler Quote
theclimber Posted March 27, 2001 Posted March 27, 2001 I have no ethics and would love to help carry your gear up to camp Muir for $. Last year my buddy and I made it to the summit of Rainier, with the help of a porter to carry some of our gear to Muir. Despite what these other people are replying with, it's a great way to go! Let me know Quote
To_The_Top Posted March 27, 2001 Posted March 27, 2001 Wow, people wanting to take your packs up for free! Last year on our climb we thought the gravy train rolled into paradise when 120 army guys filed out of 2 buses for a hike to Muir. My buddy offered $50 to anyone to take his pack up--no takers once they saw how much it weighed! They were shivering in their cold wet jeans at the hut and half of them were snow blind by then. And it's hard to bring up ethics when there is a rut all the way up anyway. Bill Quote
dog Posted March 27, 2001 Posted March 27, 2001 I have perfect ethics and would love someone to carry me and my sack to the top of Rainier. I can't pay but a reach around isn't out of the question. Quote

Bronco Posted March 27, 2001 Posted March 27, 2001 Mr. Wdkingmnan: As a result of the overwhelming response to my new corporation, Unethical Porters.com I went IPO yesterday netting the $50 I was hoping to get from you to carry a load for you or your brother. This will approximatly cover my entry pass and climbers pass for the next year at Mt. Rainier. I am now secretly planning the bankrupcy of the corporation and will not be available to "join the fun" or porter gear for you and your brother on April 22 throught the 27th. Word to your mother- Insincerly, Bronco  cc: Kashmier Quote
Craig Posted May 23, 2001 Posted May 23, 2001 What's everyone talking about? Why would anyone need help carrying their load up to Muir?...there are bathrooms right at the parking lot! Quote
Backcountry Posted May 23, 2001 Posted May 23, 2001 I try to never climb with a "loaded gun" too...Is that hair gel??? Maybe we can start listing auctions at Ebay or AdultFriend Finder for porter services...might sound too much like a singles ad though....... "Married, WM, 28, HWP, NS, social drinker; seeks companionship and fun in the outdoors, willing to carry the "load" for you........." Quote
