pindude Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 What are your favorite songs where climbing is a part of the lyrics, or at least it's alluded to? Reason I ask is that that in the last week, by chance (music picked out by others), I've heard three songs that were about climbing, or at least mountains were referred to. I don't think there are too many out there. Those 3 I recently heard: Fearless - Pink Floyd (Meddle) South Side of the Sky - Yes (Fragile) Fat Man - Jethro Tull (Stand Up) Yah, I know mine are old skool. Hopefully y'all can come up with some newer stuff. And Fat Man is a little bit of a stretch, but "mountain" is in the lyrics. Quote

sobo Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Here's my favorite... I'm a rock climber and I'm OK I sleep all night and I climb all day. Chorus: He's a rock climber and he's OK He sleeps all night and he climbs all day. I climb up rocks, I eat my lunch I go to the lavatory. On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea Mounties: He climbs up rocks, he eats his lunch He goes to the lavatory. On Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea. Chorus: He's a rock climber and he's OK He sleeps all night and he climbs all day. I climb up rocks, I skip and jump I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars. Mounties: He climbs up rocks, he skips and jumps He likes to press wild flowers. He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in bars?! Chorus: He's a rock climber and he's OK He sleeps all night and he climbs all day. I climb up rocks, I wear high heels Suspenders and a bra. I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear Papa!! Mounties: I climb up rocks, I wear high heels?! Suspenders...and a bra?!... Just the Rock climber : I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear Papa!! Quote

KaskadskyjKozak Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Not a climbing song, per se, but close enough! Sunday morning 9 a.m. I saw fire in the sky I felt my heart pound in my chest I heard an eagle cry Now I'm alive I can breathe the air Feel the wind, smell the earth in the air I watch an eagle rise above the trees Project myself into what he sees Hey- Take me away Come on and fly me away Take me up so high Where eagles fly I often dream I sail through the sky I've always wished I could fly The simple life of a bird on the wing Oh Lord, I could sing Take me away Come on fly me away Lift me up so high Where eagles fly Oh yeah- I'm alive, I breathe the air Wash the earth from my face I catch a glimpse of another dream I turn, I look but there's no trace Take me away Come on, fly me away I wanna fly away Pick me up so high Where eagles fly Oh yeah- Eagles fly, oh, take me away Eagles fly, oh, take me away Come on, let's fly away where eagles fly Come on, fly away where eagles fly Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Crevasse fall?? I don't know how to live through this hell, Woken up, I'm still locked in this shell, Frozen soul, frozen down to the core, Break the ice, I can't take anymore Freezing, Can't move at all, Screaming, Can't hear my call, I am dying to live, Cry out, I'm trapped under ice Crystallized, as I lay here and rest, Eyes of glass stare directly at death, From deep sleep I have broken away, No one knows, no one hears what I say Freezing, Can't move at all, Screaming, Can't hear my call, I am dying to live, Cry out, I'm trapped under ice Scream from my soul, Fate, mystified, Hell, forever more No release from my cryonic state, What is this? I've been stricken by fate, Wrapped up tight, cannot move, can't break free, Hand of doom has a tight grip on me Freezing, Can't move at all, Screaming, Can't hear my call, I am dying to live, Cry out, I'm trapped under ice Quote
ivan Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 bjork's "hyperballad" often comes to my mind, especially when sketchign on lead, the line "i imagine what my body would sound like slamming against those rocks and when it lands, will my eyes be closed or open?" "We live on a mountain Right at the top There's a beautiful view From the top of the mountain Every morning I walk towards the edge And throw little things off Like car-parts, bottles and cutlery Or whatever I find lying around It's become a habit A way to start the day I go through all this Before you wake up So I can feel happier To be safe up here with you It's real early morning No-one is awake I'm back at my cliff Still throwing things off I listen to the sounds they make On their way down I follow with my eyes 'til they crash Imagine what my body would sound like Slamming against those rocks When it lands Will my eyes Be closed or open? I go through all this Before you wake up So I can feel happier To be safe up here with you" Quote
sk Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 1975 by Stevie Nicks I took my love and I took it down I climbed a mountain and I turned around And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills The Landslide brought it down Oh mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides Can I handle the seasons of my life? Mmm mmm I don’t know Mmm mmm Well I’ve been ‘fraid of changing ‘cause I Built my life around you But time makes you bolder Children get older, I’m getting older too Soo (Interlude) I’ve been ‘fraid of changing ‘cause I I built my life around you But time makes you bolder, children get older I’m getting older too I’m getting older too Soo take this love, take it down Ohh if you climb a mountain and you turn around If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down, down And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills, Well maybe, the landslide will bring it down Well well the landslide with bring it down thats my favorite song that mentions a mountain... when i climb i like to sing "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger Quote

STP Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Yeah, Jane's Mountain Song. The following songs aren't about climbing but more about something nebulous...feeling about the land, nature, the past... But maybe not your thing. John Barleycorn Reborn Scroll the player near bottom of page. Try, for instance, Pumanjaw--The Burning of Auchindoun. It's another dimension... Quote
