wdietsch Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 you can always donate them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army and write them of on your taxes Quote
Bronco Posted February 7, 2002 Author Posted February 7, 2002 cool, I didn't think they would be interested in sporting goods. OK people, this stuff is gone tomorow afternoon unless I hear from you. Quote
wdietsch Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 when you drop them off make sure you get a little slip from the attendant that lists what you are donating (i.e. 3 pairs ski boots, 3 pairs skis) and when you do your taxes next year you get to estimate what they are worth as a charitable donation Quote
James Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 quote: Originally posted by wdietsch: you can always donate them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army and write them of on your taxes i thought you could only deduct charitable donations once they exceeded your standard deduction. Quote
Alex Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 If you take the standard deduction, you dont get squat. If you do itemized deductions, Schedule A, you can list charitable donations for both cash and non-cash donations. Quote
wdietsch Posted February 7, 2002 Posted February 7, 2002 Alex is correct. Donations to non profit's including things such as mileage to and from non-profit activites such as fund raising add up over a year's time... take what you can cause if you don't the man will Quote
dr._jay Posted February 8, 2002 Posted February 8, 2002 itemizing your deductions only pays off if they add up to more than the standard deduction, which is around $4500 bucks this year. so unless you've got other deductions it probably won't be worthwhile. i'd be happy to drop them off for you though, i just saw the accountant today and need to find some more deductions for next year Quote

To_The_Top Posted February 8, 2002 Posted February 8, 2002 If Bronco owns a house, which he does(I'm pretty sure) , then he will most likely meet the standard deduction because of his interest paid out on the home loan, then his savings in taxes will be his marginal tax rate, not a straight 1-to-1 reduction of tax payments, but rather a percentage. I think there is a limit that can be reported for non-cash charitable donations, before you may hit where you have to disclose more, like around $400. TTT Quote

wdietsch Posted February 8, 2002 Posted February 8, 2002 Bronco, Any idea what size boot they have been set for? I might be interested. I wear a 11-1/2 Quote
kevin_o'malley Posted February 8, 2002 Posted February 8, 2002 hay man! just do it under the table and forget about all that tax crap! Quote
Bronco Posted February 9, 2002 Author Posted February 9, 2002 thanks for all the good advice on taxes you geeky accountants. I'm just jealous cause I hate bookeeping and all that paperwork that goes with it. Anyway, the free stuff is gone to the Volunteers of America but, the Rossi's are still for sale, I looked a little closer at them and they are really nice, mellow curved skis. $50.00 Quote

I wear a 11-1/2 They are adjustable, and if you need to, you can move the bindings. I have done this in the past (not on these) and had no problems despite my best efforts to hammer on the skis. You just fill the old screw holes with epoxy and re mount them where you need them. Someone who works at a ski shop may say different but, thats been my experience. (what do you want for $50?) Quote
mattp Posted February 10, 2002 Posted February 10, 2002 I've been told that, as a general rule of thumb, a pair of skis is good for three different sets of holes for binding installations and after that you have drilled so many holes that you have seriously weakened the ski. If you want to move the bindings such that you are putting new holes right next to old ones, I'd be concerened even about a second installation but if not, it is probably OK to do as Bronco suggests. antic Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 If those Marker M38 bindings are still for sale, I want them. I do not need the skis, just the bindings. Where are you located? I am in Seattle. 206 285 1690 Thanx: Jack Hillyer, rasky38@hotmail.com Quote
