builder206
it is by grace alone....... awright, finally let's get some genuine theology rolling here One of the worst problems with the fundies (not you, bug) is their sick over-emphasis on the Pauline letters and Paul's whip-cracking harshness. If the fundies had just a shred of the mercy shown in Matthew, America would not be nearly so riven with vitriol.
Bug
Jesus threw the Pharisees (fundamentalists) out of the Temple for making the Book/code more important than the message. "GOD HATES YOU!" was on one of the signs at a Gay soldier's funeral. How ironic.
lizard_brain
My sister-in-law has a bumper sticker on her mini-van that says "Caution - in event of rapture, this vehicle shall become driverless". I asked her if she thinks she is god. "Doesn't God have the ultimate decision over who gets into heaven? "Yes, but.." "And you have decided that you are going to heaven, so you must be god, or you have made god's decision for him. Pretty presumptious of you, to just assume you have a pass into heaven. You have decided that you are one of the chosen ones?" And so on. I call her 'God' occasionally, and it pisses her off.

I'd say the problem is more fundamental: that anyone bases their life and beliefs on the rantings of long dead cultists, regardless of what name they went by. builder206
Neitze, the great atheist, said, "Never was there so great a persecuter of Christians as Saul until Paul." As you crash against that wall over and over, do you ever wonder why you chose to return? It slipped my mind this morning that Paul began as Saul the persecutor.
