Trip: Moab Area - Creek and Towers

Date: 10/21/2007

Trip Report:

Autumn is a great time in BC to migrate to warmer, drier climes. Birds do it, so can I. Time to pack the rig and recharge the Vitamin D for the long winter...

It was my first trip to the Moab area. In general, I enjoyed the towers a lot more than the Creek....too much of a good thing I guess. As much as I love trad, lugging around 64billion cams is a bit much. The Towers are much more interesting and climb more like granite than the Creek.

The first week I climbed with my friend Stewart from Squamish and the next with Blake "Megalodon Meister" Herrington. We managed to get in a lot of cragging with a wide cast of characters and also managed to squeeze in a few towers. In the end we did Primrose Dihedrals on Moses tower, Lightning Bolt Cracks on North Six Shooter, Fine Jade, The first two pitches of Coyote Calling, and Ancient Arts.

Here's a few photos of the trip....I'll post some more as they come in.

The top of that tower was scary and made a creaking noise when flexed. Climb it before it falls over, I am glad I was able to do it... ONE TIME. The wingate sandstone towers have the best climbing down there, watch out for the last moves on the first pitch of Coyote Calling!

Makes a guy wanna run from the hills and settle in the desert...beautiful pictures.

Spitting on tourists from atop towers--love it. But tell me, how is a traveling climber not a tourist?
