briand97 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I climbing next week and am having the damnedest time deciding what tent(s) to take. I'm taking a group of three; me, my girlfriend and my friend. I could take: 2 - 2 person tents (both sturdy little 3 season) good in wind. 1 - 2 person and 1 - 1 person (the 1 person needs tie downs and I know that can be problematic at lunch counter). Also not sure how it would do in moderate wind or above. 1 - 3 person bomber four season tent - but talk about complete and utter overkill... Not sure exactly what to do though? lightest would probably be the 1 and 2 person combo followed by 3 person. Quote
mattp Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Check the weather forecast just before you head out. I"d take the mountain tent if there was a forecast including rain or wind, and NO tent if it was the usual August no chance of badweather forecast. (The main drawback of this "light" option is you might get harassed by - eeek - mice.) Quote
lightning Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I climbed Adams this weekend and we used a UL 3 season backpacking tent in sustained 30-40 mph winds and it was fine. The three person tent might be nice because it would allow the party to be more social but, at the same time that means NO privacy. Quote
DavidHiers Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I'd go with the 1 + 2 option. Lunch Counter has good wind breaks, and if you toss some rocks in a few bags and you can tie down anything. You might not find enough rocks at LC, so pack 'em up from trail head Quote
hefeweizen Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) After having sunset copulation at Lunch Counter with my GF, I'd never go up there again without the option of a private tent. Bring the two person love shack for the two of you, send your buddy with a bivy sack however far away you need for your GF to feel comfortable, bring some courvosier and a fish sandwich and enjoy. counterfeitfake Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Yeah, I can't believe this is really being asked. Quote
Couloir Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Make sure you bring a good sized bath towel too. In case things get really crazy. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I would take a canoe with the priest, fox, and rabbi first, followed by the chicken, your GF, and a lawyer second. Quote

Frikadeller Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) If he had more than one post, I'd say: Nah, I climbed Hood a few years ago with the guy and his GF.... He is most likely just looking for some feedback. Edited September 22, 2007 by Frikadeller Quote
