Cobra_Commander Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I bet the sno-mo crew is eyeing that one carefully. As long as they don't charge me just to pass through a giant timber gate. Quote

KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 [quote=Cobra_Commander As long as they don't charge me just to pass through a giant timber gate. True dat I wonder how this would affect the climbing permit system. $15/run up the mountain + $7 to Jack's restaurant (what a scam!) Quote
shortstow Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Part of that $7 to jacks actually goes to ESPN who owns the online permit system you have to go through. Like ESPN needs more money, espically from us outdoor folk Quote
spicoli11 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 This thread keeps getting worse. ESPN for real? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I'm climbing up Mt. St. Helens this weekend. I plan on making a full trip report about this Cascade Jewel. You can look forward to that, complete with lots of pictures. Quote

murraysovereign Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I spent the day there yesterday, just doing the tourist loop up Johnson Ridge. Pretty cool place. But I was appalled at the way they're fleecing visitors. I mean, $8.00 (in US dollars, even) just to get out of your car and walk around? C'mon, for that I should at least be allowed to have a campfire, but NOOOO. Not only are campfires not allowed, but even just camping isn't allowed, even if you're willing to pay extra. What is this, some sort of "social engineering" thing? And that movie they show you, well, it was pretty well done, but I thought it was kinda violent considering all the families with little kids there. Really, doesn't someone screen these things? But all told, it was a neat place to spend a day. Maybe if the NPS takes it over, then you won't have to pay extra to get out of your car, and they'll allow campfires- maybe even camping. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 there will be a lot of upset telemarkers when they can't bring their mandatory dogs up on the mountain. they'll just have to settle for the dave matthews/mmw stereotype Quote
murraysovereign Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 What if the dog is carrying your MLU in its pack? Quote
Chad_A Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 medics should be on standby Yes. The sand and scree that gets in your shoes can be very painful. Quote
marylou Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 What would change? Is it now under the mgmt of the FS or the NPS? The NPS is NOT underfunded by any means. Example: MORA has made a huge dent in their storm repoairs already, while MBSNF hasn't got any money for theirs to speak of. Even the PCT damage from '03 isn't fixed yet. Quote

I pay for an annual NP pass with the add-on which covers the TH passes, and St. Helens has never been included. This may have changed this year (with a $15 hike in price) Even so, this fee still pales in comparison to the fleecing instituted by the socialist Canuck gov't. Quote

Really, doesn't someone screen these things?. funny - took my daughter up to the visitor center when she was 2 - she made it about 20 seconds into the film when she became completly unhinged - "the trees! the trees! the trees! why?!?!?" damn near shitting meself w/ laughter while trying to get her out of the darkened theater...
